DESCRIPTION:Join Wilton Library for a special poetry seminar series with Judson Scruton as part of this year’s Wilton Reads program which features Cristina Henriquez’s The Great Divide\, an epic novel on the construction of the Panama Canal. His series will run on four Thursday mornings starting on April 4 at 10:30 a.m. They will distribute a packet with a detailed schedule of readings and links to the poems in advance. \nAs part of this year’s Wilton Reads\, Scruton will conduct four seminars mingling literary responses to two massive undertakings that connected the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans:\n– the building of the Transcontinental Railroad (1863-1960) featuring poems by Bret Hart\, Walt Whitman\, Theodore Roethke\, and others.\n– the building of the Panama Canal (1904-1914) featuring Henriquez’s novel The Great Divide. \nAlthough he will make references to the novel throughout the series\, the fourth Thursday’s discussion will have the primary discussion related to the novel (April 25). \nScruton\, M.A. (Johns Hopkins University\, The Writing Seminars\, specializing in poetry)\, taught creative writing and literature at prep schools and universities. In his career as an educator\, Judson also directed publications\, communications\, public relations\, and development at a variety of educational institutions in the U.S. and U.K.\, including the Newberry Library in Chicago. \nAdvance registration is required online or call 203.762.6334. SUMMARY:Take the Stage: An Acting Workshop for Teens
DESCRIPTION:Students participating in this Wilton Library workshop will have the wonderful opportunity to try their hands at some theatre games\, improvisations and acting exercises. \nEveryone will participate in this exciting exploration without feeling put on the spot. The workshop will begin with some fun and inviting warm-up games that gradually build their way to more challenging improvisations. Though disguised as play\, these exercises work on a student’s concentration\, creativity and critical thinking skills. \nIngrid Schaeffer\, workshop leader\, is Chair of the Theatre Department at ACES Educational Center for the Arts. She also is the director of her own private Creative Dramatics program\, InterAct Summer Theatre\, for children ages 7-15. DESCRIPTION:The Planning and Zoning Commission is a nine-member elected body responsible for overseeing land use and development activity within Wilton. Key responsibilities of the commission are reviewing zoning regulation amendment applications\, changes to the Town’s zoning map\, and applications involving the subdivision of land\, and evaluating mandatory referrals from the Board of Selectmen. Additionally\, the commission oversees long-range planning initiatives\, including the preparation of the Town’s Plan of Conservation and Development. \nPlanning and Zoning Commission Regular Meetings typically occur on the second and fourth Mondays of the month\, from 7-9 p.m. \nMeetings can be attended by the public via the Zoom link. \nMembers of the public can submit written comments and questions via email to Land Use Director/Town Planner Michael Wrinn by 12 p.m. on the day of the meeting\, or members of the public can comment on Zoom at the appropriate time by raising a hand to notify the host of the intent to provide comments. Public participants will be promoted one at a time to provide comments live on Zoom.

SUMMARY:Inland Wetlands Commission Regular Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Inland Wetlands Commission Regular Meeting is the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month at 7:30 p.m. \nThe Inland Wetlands Commission was established to conserve\, protect\, supervise\, and regulate the wetlands and watercourses within the Town of Wilton.  The Commission is comprised of seven members who serve in three year terms. \nThe Commission is responsible for administering the Inland Wetlands and Watercourse Regulations for the Town. The Commission reviews applications on all land use projects within wetlands\, and watercourses within the regulated areas adjacent to them (100 ft.).  The Commission also pursues violations and the corresponding corrective action. \n**Please follow the following additional steps when submitting an Application to the Office of the Commission: Once you have completed the application and gathered the required supporting materials you can drop it of along with the required copies and the check made out to “Town of Wilton” in the Dropbox located in the Town Hall Annex vestibule.  You will also need to scan all of the documents and submit them electronically to these emails mike.conklin@wiltonct.org and Elizabeth.Larkin@wiltonct.org.  \n\nInland Wetland and Watercourse Regulations\nInland Wetland Permit Application Process\nFee Schedule (Effective June 1\, 2021)\n\nFor Definitions of the Activity levels defined above\, see Inland Wetlands and Watercourse Regulations\, Section 2.1.z. \nMeeting agendas\, minutes\, and Zoom links can be found here. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:The Miller-Driscoll School Carnival is making its return April 26-28! Save the Date and get ready for rides\, food and family fun! \nFriday\, April 26: 6 – 10 p.m.\nSaturday\, April 27: 1 – 10 p.m.\nSunday\, April 28: 1 – 5 p.m. \nIn addition to the fun and entertainment\, local food trucks will also be there\, namely 900 Degrees Pizza\, JJB\, Southern Wings and Things (SWAT)\, Cinnabomb Food Truck\, and College Creamery. Food trucks will open an hour before the carnival starts all 3 days. \nThe carnival is one of the school’s most significant fundraisers. Through ticket sales and local sponsor support\, the carnival raises funds that are used towards student enrichment programs\, educational workshops\, new materials\, and the fulfillment of grant requests. \nUnlimited ride wristbands will be available for purchase on-site for $35. Wristbands are good for one day only and cannot be reused over multiple days.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Norwalk River Watershed Association for 3 free spring migration bird walks led by expert birder\, conservationist\, master gardener intern\, and Wilton resident Joe Bear. \nBear will lead participants on a leisurely 2-hour walk through the diverse habitats this well-known birding hot spot has to offer – open fields\, woodlands\, edges\, pond and swamp – to seek out returning summer residents\, those on their way to northern nesting grounds\, and maybe a vagrant or two. \nPrevious spring walks have yielded a wide variety of species including both Orchard and Baltimore Orioles\, Bobolink\, Indigo Bunting\, Scarlet Tanager\, Eastern Kingbird\, Rose-breasted Grosbeak\, Flycatchers\, Vireos and a variety of colorful Warblers. We’ll also get a chance to see up close Eastern Bluebirds and Tree Swallows vying for one of the 12 nest boxes erected by Bear in and around the Little Bluestem Meadow. \nRegister online.

DESCRIPTION:Children who can read independently are invited to read to a Ridgefield Operation Animal Rescue (ROAR) therapy dog at Wilton Library. Trained therapy dogs in reading programs can encourage better reading habits. Children feel more comfortable reading out loud\, read more often\, attempt more difficult books\, and actually look forward to reading. As they improve their literacy skills\, they also learn to love books! \nRegistration is required online. Drop-ins welcome if space allows.

DESCRIPTION:St. Matthew’s\, the Episcopal Church in Wilton\, will hold a special screening of a new documentary about the first eleven women who were ordained in the Episcopal Church. This is a fascinating story about women who changed the world around them. It’s a story about the resistance they met and how they overcame it. And it’s a story about their legacy. You can read more about the film online. \nOne of the eleven\, the Rev. Dr. Carter Heyward\, will join. Not only one of these original eleven\, Heyward is also a feminist theologian with a wide scope of influence and interests. Read more about Heward here. \nThe Rev. Dr. will preach at the 10 a.m. worship service at St. Matthew’s. The screening will then be at 2 p.m. followed by a conversation with Heyward. This event is free and open to the public.
