Furthermore\, discuss the greatest tech concerns of the time. Using the latest research\, Erickson will also provide practical\, creative ideas on how to encourage healthier digital habits in families. She will describe finding greater tech-life balance in a distracted world! \nErickson has over 20 years’ experience working in maternal child health for businesses such as San Diego State University\, Scripps\, Children’s Hospital\, and more. She notably founded Unplugged Village\, a digital wellness company that helps people spend less time with technology. Bettke also serves as accompanist and conductor with the Fairfield Children’s Choir. DESCRIPTION:Join the Norwalk River Watershed Association for 3 free spring migration bird walks led by expert birder\, conservationist\, master gardener intern\, and Wilton resident Joe Bear. \nBear will lead participants on a leisurely 2-hour walk through the diverse habitats this well-known birding hot spot has to offer – open fields\, woodlands\, edges\, pond and swamp – to seek out returning summer residents\, those on their way to northern nesting grounds\, and maybe a vagrant or two. \nPrevious spring walks have yielded a wide variety of species including both Orchard and Baltimore Orioles\, Bobolink\, Indigo Bunting\, Scarlet Tanager\, Eastern Kingbird\, Rose-breasted Grosbeak\, Flycatchers\, Vireos and a variety of colorful Warblers. We’ll also get a chance to see up close Eastern Bluebirds and Tree Swallows vying for one of the 12 nest boxes erected by Bear in and around the Little Bluestem Meadow. \nRegister online.

DESCRIPTION:Join Wilton Library for another Sunday afternoon of chamber music in their Connecticut’s Own series. Wilton residents Ralph Kirmser (oboe) and Kyong Hee Cho (piano) will perform pieces by Robert Schumann\, Pierre Sancan\, and Frederic Chopin. \nKirmser has been oboist for the Madera Winds Quintet for five years. Prior to that\, he was oboist for the Prevailing Winds of Connecticut and Morningside Wind Quintet of New York City. Dr. Kirmser is a cardiologist with Cardiology Physicians of Fairfield County and practices in Norwalk. He is a resident of Wilton\, CT and has lived there with his wife Sally and their three children for over 40 years. \nCho began her piano career in Korea at the age of four. She gave her first concert piano performance with the Seoul Symphony at the age of eleven. She attended the Manhattan School of Music as a merit scholar where she earned a BA and MA degree in piano performance. Cho has performed numerous solo concerts to benefit international medical and disaster relief. She teaches piano at her studio in Wilton\, CT. \nRegistration is required. DESCRIPTION:Wilton Reads 2024 culminates with Wilton Library‘s author talk event featuring Cristina Henriquez\, acclaimed author of The Great Divide. \nThe Great Divide is a fascinating historical novel about the Panama Canal construction\, one of the greatest historical engineering feats. It importantly explores laborers\, locals\, activists\, doctors\, scientists\, and others interwoven stories. They are clearly the diverse unsung heroes who lived and worked alongside the massive project. They also witnessed firsthand the human cost of progress as they fought to survive amid turmoil and disease. \nThe Great Divide is a TODAY Show Read with Jenna Book Club Pick\, an Indie Next Pick\, a LibraryReads Pick. It has been named a Best of the Month Pick by Amazon\, TIME\, The Washington Post\, and the Los Angeles Times as well. \nHenriquez wrote four books\, including The Book of Unknown Americans\, a New York Times Notable Book of 2014 and one of Amazon’s Top 10 Best Books of the Year. It was longlisted for the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction and was a finalist for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. \nHenriquez is also the author of The World in Half and Come Together\, Fall Apart: A Novella and Stories. She additionally earned the Alfredo Cisneros Del Moral Foundation Award\, a grant by Sandra Cisneros honoring her father. Obtaining her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and graduating from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop\, Henriquez now lives in Illinois. \nWiltonian Joanna Ecke will interview Henriquez.
