DESCRIPTION:Join Wilton Library on Saturday\, Dec. 13 at 3 p.m. for an Author Talk with renowned teen and children’s author Jason Reynolds. Reynolds will be in conversation with Valmai Hanson\, head of Teen Services at Wilton Library. \nReynolds is a number-one New York Times bestselling author of novels and poetry for young adult and middle-grade audiences\, and a 2024 MacArthur Fellow. His new book\, Coach\, came out on Oct. 14 and is the fifth book in the New York Times bestselling “Track” series. Some of his other works include Twenty-Four Seconds From Now…\, National Book Award Finalist Look Both Ways\, Caldecott Honor There Was a Party for Langston\, and Ain’t Burned All The Bright\, a Caldecott Honor winner. In his works\, Reynolds aims to depict the rich inner lives of kids of color and ensure that they see themselves and their communities in literature. \nBorn in Washington\, DC\, and raised in Maryland\, Reynolds first found inspiration in rap and began writing poetry when he was 9 years old. He went on to publish several poetry collections before publishing his first novel\, When I Was the Greatest\, which won the Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe Award for New Talent. He has since written numerous award-winning novels\, including All American Boys\, the Track series\, Patina\, Sunny\, For Everyone\, Miles Morales-Spiderman\, and As Brave As You\, which won the Kirkus Prize\, an NAACP Image Award\, and the Schneider Family Book Award. He is also the author of Long Way Down\, a novel in verse which was named a Newbery Honor book\, a Printz Honor Book\, and best young adult work by the Mystery Writers of America’s Edgar Awards. \nReynolds’ book\, Stamped: Racism\, Antiracism\, and You\, written in collaboration with author and historian Dr. Ibram X. Kendi\, is a gripping\, fast-paced and energizing narrative that illuminates the many insidious forms of racist ideas and gives readers the tools to identify and stamp out racist thoughts in their own lives. \nReynolds currently lives and writes in Washington\, DC\, and has served three terms as the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. \nElm Street Books will be on site to sell different books written by Reynolds. Bring your favorite book or pick from one provided by CHS. \nWatch your child’s confidence in reading grow as they bring comfort and compassion to shelter pets. Reading sessions are 20 minutes long and will be offered on Monday\, Dec. 29 and Tuesday\, Dec. 30. Pre-registration is required. \nThere is a registration fee of $12.51 per child\, per session. Your tree will join others in helping stabilize stream-banks\, reduce erosion and create refuge habitat for juvenile trout and other aquatic life during projects all summer long. \nCollection will take place on both Saturday\, Jan. 3 and Saturday\, Jan. 10 at Merwin Meadows Park from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. both days. Just drive up with your tree and our volunteers will take care of the rest. \nSuggested donation is $10 \nFriendly reminder: natural trees only — synthetic trees or trees with tinsel or flocking cannot be accepted.

SUMMARY:Architectural Review Board/Village District Design Advisory Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The combined Architectural Review Board (ARB) and the Village District Design Advisory Committee (VDDAC) is charged with providing expert architectural guidance to applicants and design recommendations to the Planning and Zoning Commission in the review of certain commercial and non-commercial development applications.  Consisting of five members\, the entity functions as a combined panel that serves in two distinct capacities depending on the nature and location of the proposal.  The panel serves in an advisory capacity only. The public can attend these open meetings via Zoom. \nRegular meetings of the Architectural Review Board /Village District Design Advisory Committee are held on the first Thursday of each month\, unless otherwise scheduled due to holiday. \nWhen functioning as the VDDAC\, the panel reviews development proposals that are situated in geographic locations known as “Village Districts\,” which are neighborhoods of distinctive character\, unifying architectural interest\, and/or historic value; and\, at present\, include Wilton Center and commercially-zoned sections of Cannondale. Review authority extends to new construction\, substantial reconstruction and rehabilitation of properties; including but not limited to\, the design and placement of buildings\, the maintenance of public views\, the design\, paving materials and placement of public roadways\, signage and other elements that maintain and protect the unique character of the designated village districts. \nServing as the Town’s ARB\, the panel is responsible for the review of special permit and site plan applications involving new construction\, significant site and exterior and/or facade alterations for properties that are not part of a designated village district. \nThe VDDAC/ARB’s overarching mission is to work with applicants in a constructive and collaborative manner so as to foster successful design outcomes that are appropriate to and representative of Wilton’s unique character.  Refer to the Zoning Regulations of the Town of Wilton for further detail and guidance.
