SUMMARY:Music on the Hill:  Sounds of the Season
DESCRIPTION:Join Music on the Hill for their gorgeous holiday concert\, “Sounds of the Season.” Featured this year will be the Jubilate Ringers\, the Festival Chorus\, and our new Community Children’s Chorus. David H. Connell and Ellen Dickinson conduct. Our program of festive music includes choral works by contemporary Scandinavian composers Kim André Arnesen and Morten Lauridsen\, as well as “The Heavens Delight” by New Canaan composer Gwyneth Walker. Other selections include gorgeous seasonal pieces such as “Cantate Domino” (Hassler)\, “Jesus Christ the Apple Tree” (Poston)\, “What Sweeter Music Can We Bring?” (Berger) and the French traditional carol “Masters in This Hall.” \nThe bell ringers will perform a hauntingly beautiful arrangement of the plainchant melody Divinium mysterium (“Of the Father’s Love Begotten”)\, and will accompany both children’s and adult choruses for more familiar carols\, including a medley arranged by Dickinson. \nWe will all sing favorite carols with the majestic St. Matthew’s organ as accompaniment. DESCRIPTION:Has the back-to-school honeymoon worn off? As school gets into full swing\, the academic and social stresses can get to be too much\, and result in behavioral changes. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Child and Adolescent Network (CAN) is a support group for parents of children with behavioral\, emotional and mental health issues. The meeting is free\, confidential\, safe and led by trained volunteer facilitators who themselves have had personal experiences raising children with these concerns. Parents come from Redding\, Weston\, Westport\, Wilton and towns in the surrounding area. DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, Dec. 18\, officers from the Wilton Police Department and community members will come together in an informal\, neutral space to discuss community issues\, build relationships\, and drink coffee. \nAll community members are invited to attend “Coffee with a Cop.” The event runs from 8-10 a.m. at Tusk and Cup (142 Old Ridgefield Rd.). \nCoffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in Wilton neighborhoods. \nThe majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies\, or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community\, and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed\, one-on-one interaction. \nCoffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice\, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the country\, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve. \nThe program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time.
