SUMMARY:Birding Walk Through Allen's Meadow
DESCRIPTION:Wilton resident\, gardener\, and birding expert Joe Bear will be leading a second spring birding walk this Thursday\, May 20\, at 8:30 am at Allen’s Meadow. Spring migration is in full swing with migrants from as far south as South America arriving in our state to either breed or continue on to breeding grounds north of us. Join Joe in a Norwalk River Watershed Association and Pollinator Pathway-sponsored event as we spend a leisurely two-hour walk through the diverse habitats this birding hot spot has to offer – Pollinator Pathway patches\, open field\, woodlands\, edges\, pond\, and swamp. Recent sightings have included 17 warbler species\, Baltimore Orioles\, Scarlet Tanagers\, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks\, Wood Thrush\, Swallows\, and a singing male Bobolink. \nMeet at the far end of the gravel parking area near the Field 6 sign.

Among birders\, this is known as the Global Big Day — a day to get out and see as many bird species as possible! Together\, participants will walk the trail across Spectacle Lane and into the Wilton Land Trust’s Spectacle Lane Trail to look and listen for birds\, and learn about the forest and its various habitats. \nWLT’s Executive Director will help attendees see the forest through the trees and Woodcock educator and birding enthusiast Tommy McCarthy will share his knowledge of all the species encountered. \nSo\, grab a water bottle\, supportive shoes\, tick and bug repellant\, a camera\, and binoculars\, and join WLT and Woodcock for a morning of adventure and learning. And don’t forget — leave furry friends at home\, so they don’t scare away any potential wildlife! \nThe Wilton Conservation Trust is a community-focused nonprofit organization that conserves land\, protects biodiversity\, enhances ecosystems\, and builds community. \nThe Woodcock Nature Center has been a source of environmental and nature education since 1972. They work to instill a love and respect for nature and serve as a resource for educating the community about our natural surroundings.
