SUMMARY:Wilton Family Y Hosts Pedal to End Cancer Cycling Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, March 18\, from 8-11 a.m.\, the Riverbrook Regional/Wilton Family Y is hosting a Pedal to End Cancer fundraising event to raise money for the American Cancer Society (ACS). This special event is open to members and non-members who would like to raise money for a good cause. Riverbrook Y instructors will motivate participants through one\, two\, or three hours of cycling. The money raised goes toward ACS funding for groundbreaking cancer research\, critical patient care services\, education\, and prevention initiatives.\n\n \n\nThe Riverbrook Regional YMCA holds indoor cycling classes for all levels seven days a week and has a variety of other group exercise classes geared towards members of all ages and abilities. They are also proud to offer Livestrong\, a 12-week exercise program for adult cancer survivors in all stages of recovery.\n\n \n\nIn honor of Colorectal Cancer Awareness month in March\, Wilton Y Director of Healthy Living Rhoda Kasparek wanted to host this event to raise awareness about colorectal cancer and promote screening. Representatives from Nuvance Health will be on-site the morning of the event to share helpful resources and information.\n\n \n\nJoyce Quinlan\, pictured above with Group Fitness Coordinator Dina Savitt and Kasparek\, is participating in Pedal to End Cancer as a breast cancer survivor and indoor cycling instructor\, riding in support of other cancer survivors and doing her part to raise money for the cause.  \n\n \n\nFor more information\, email kasparek or call 203.762.8384\, ext. 282. SUMMARY:What You Need to Know about the Latest in Breast Imaging and Genetic Testing
DESCRIPTION:Please join Wilton Library during Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October to hear from two experts who will speak about current research and recommendations on breast health. \nDr. Kazanjian will describe the latest recommendations for breast imaging\, the newest technologies\, and what’s on the horizon. Dr. Suskin will discuss the hereditary basis of breast cancer as well as the important role genetic counseling and testing play in empowering patients and families to make informed decisions regarding cancer treatment and prevention. She will also address common myths surrounding cancer genetics. An informal reception will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.\, followed by the presentations at 6:30 p.m. \nDr. Mia Kazanjian is a board-certified radiologist specializing in breast and body imaging. She is currently in practice with Norwalk Radiology Consultants\, where she serves as the Director of Women’s Imaging. She is now assuming the role as Director of Women’s Imaging at Stamford Hospital and Co-Director of the Stamford Health Breast Center. \nDr. Barrie Suskin\, Director of Reproductive Genetics and OB/GYN Ultrasound at Stamford Hospital\, is board-certified in both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Medical Genetics.
