SUMMARY:An Evening with Mitch Albom to Benefit Circle of Care
DESCRIPTION:Join the Circle of Care for an intimate conversation with NY Times best selling author Mitch Albom\, about his latest book\, Finding Chika. It will be an inspirational evening filled with funny and tender anecdotes and moving photos and video from his time with the amazing Chika and the story about a little girl\, an earthquake and the making of a family. \nThe author of Tuesdays With Morrie returns to nonfiction to celebrate Chika\, a young Haitian orphan who forever changed his heart. Through the operation of the Have Faith Haiti Orphanage in Port Au Prince and in reaction to the 2010 earthquake devastation\, Albom met his daughter\, Chika. The young orphan had developed a life-threatening brain tumor and with no doctors in Haiti able to help her\, Albom brought Chika to America. The story follows their two-year\, around-the-world journey to find a cure for an inoperable brain tumor. Told in hindsight\, and through conversations with Chika herself\, this is Albom at his most poignant and vulnerable. He creates a beautiful portrait of what it means to be a family\, regardless of how it is made. “This is the hardest yet most important book I have written or may ever write\,” says Albom. \nHosting the event is a Connecticut based organization dedicated to the same advocacy Albom addresses in Chika. Circle of Care is a non-profit supporting the journey families of children with cancer face. To support Circle of Care and their shared mission to help children and families with cancer\, Albom has waived his speaking fee for the Jan. 30 event. \nMitch Albom is a bestselling author\, screenwriter\, playwright and nationally syndicated columnist. Tuesdays with Morrie\, which spent four straight years atop The New York Times list\, is now the bestselling memoir of all time. Albom has founded nine charities in Detroit\, including the first-ever 24-hour medical clinic for homeless children in America. He also continues to operate and visit monthly the Have Faith Haiti Orphanage. \nJoin Circle of Care and its intimate conversation with Mitch Albom as he reflects on his life-changing experience with Chika through anecdotes\, photos\, and videos. DESCRIPTION:Please join Wilton Library for a conversation about the many advances in multiple myeloma treatment and patient care\, led by the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and physicians from Stamford Health and Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center. \nA reception beginning at 6:00 p.m. will be followed by the talk at 6:30 p.m. \nDr. Kelsey Sokol is a hematologist and medical oncologist at the Bennett Cancer Center\, specializing in the treatment of breast cancer and blood disorders\, including leukemia\, lymphoma\, and multiple myeloma. \nDr. Clifton Mo is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and currently serves as Physician and Director of Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation and Associate Director of Clinical Research for Multiple Myeloma at Dana-Farber. DESCRIPTION:Please join Wilton Library during Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October to hear from two experts who will speak about current research and recommendations on breast health. \nDr. Kazanjian will describe the latest recommendations for breast imaging\, the newest technologies\, and what’s on the horizon. Dr. Suskin will discuss the hereditary basis of breast cancer as well as the important role genetic counseling and testing play in empowering patients and families to make informed decisions regarding cancer treatment and prevention. She will also address common myths surrounding cancer genetics. An informal reception will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.\, followed by the presentations at 6:30 p.m. \nDr. Mia Kazanjian is a board-certified radiologist specializing in breast and body imaging. She is currently in practice with Norwalk Radiology Consultants\, where she serves as the Director of Women’s Imaging. She is now assuming the role as Director of Women’s Imaging at Stamford Hospital and Co-Director of the Stamford Health Breast Center. \nDr. Barrie Suskin\, Director of Reproductive Genetics and OB/GYN Ultrasound at Stamford Hospital\, is board-certified in both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Medical Genetics.
