SUMMARY:Labor Day 2021 Weekend Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Join friends and family for a Labor Day celebration on Saturday\, Sept. 4 at the Wilton High School complex (395 Danbury Rd.). The line-up of events includes: \nUPDATE:  the race event has been CANCELLED.  Miracle Mile Track Race: Festivities will kick off at the WHS track with the Miracle Mile Track Race giving residents and families an opportunity to test out the Town of Wilton’s recently updated track. The race will occur in one-mile intervals with 15 people racing per time slot. There will be 20-minute intervals starting at 8:30 a.m. with the last run starting at 10:10 a.m. Race cost is $20 per adult and $10 per child (18 and under). The race fee includes a shirt that will be ready for pickup at the track on race day. Race registration can be completed on e-Trak. \nDemocrats vs. Republicans Softball Game: At 12 p.m. Democrats and Republicans will face off on the WHS Varsity Softball Field.  \nFireworks and Live DJ: Bring a blanket\, chairs\, and picnic food to the WHS Complex at 5 p.m. to enjoy music by Dance to the Music DJ. A traditional Fourth of July style-fireworks show will kick off at sundown around 8:30 p.m. Anyone concerned about sitting in the main seating area outside the Stadium can consider North Field\, Cider Mill or Comstock Community Center Field as alternates. \nParking passes will be available for the parking lots at the Rte. 7 Tennis Courts\, Cider Mill School\, Wilton Board of Education\, and Lilly Way athletic fields. Passes can be purchased online for $35 per vehicle on e-Trak. Online purchases are encouraged. Passes can also be purchased at the Wilton Parks and Recreation Department office (180 School Rd.). Passes will be available through Friday\, Sept. 3 (passes will not be available for purchase on the day of the event). Vehicles without a valid parking pass will not be allowed to park in any of the aforementioned parking lots even if space permits. Ancillary parking outside of the pre-paid parking lots will only be available on a first-come\, first-served basis. Free parking will be offered to all first responder/healthcare and emergency workers and are asked to register for passes using e-Trak. The rain date for the fireworks is Monday\, Sept. 6.

DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday\, May 29 at 10:00 a.m. \nMemorial Day activities start with the Pancake Breakfast\, sponsored by the Wilton Kiwanis Club\, and held at the Wilton Congregational Church. The events end with the Memorial Service at Hillside Cemetery. \nThis year’s keynote speaker will be Vietnam Veteran Jim Kohler\, and the parade Grand Marshal will be Bayden “Bud” Taylor\, a Navy veteran. \nThe committee has issued the call for parade participants. Any groups interested in marching in the parade should contact Coleen Amero via email to receive registration forms. Participants need to provide proof of insurance in order to march and registration forms are due by May 19. \n

SUMMARY:Serendipity Chorale: Celebrating Black History Month
DESCRIPTION:Join Wilton Library for a very special celebration of Black History Month. Experience the Serendipity Chorale\, featuring professional baritone Edward Pleasant. The chorale will perform a program of gospel songs and spirituals\, along with songs from the civil rights movement. The group’s leader\, Gigi Van Dyke\, will narrate this music’s role in Black history. In particular\, she will explain how slaves sang spirituals to communicate escape routes to reach the underground railroad. \nVan Dyke has led Serendipity’s group of men and women of diverse backgrounds for 49 years. From all around Fairfield County\, music is their common denominator. The Lt. Governor’s office also honored them as a Connecticut Treasure “for long devotion to spreading smiles and songs throughout southwestern Connecticut.” The chorale even sang with Andy Williams and Pete Seeger and performed at the Levitt Pavilion\, the Westport Playhouse and at the Norwalk Concert Hall. \nCritically acclaimed in opera\, stage\, narration\, recording\, and musical theater\, Pleasant is recognized as one of the most versatile performers of his generation. He chiefly distinguishes himself as an expressive singer and a gifted actor with brilliant comic timing. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Patriots’ Day with Hillside Cemetery. Wilton actually played an important role during the Revolutionary War. A surprisingly large number of over 300 men from Wilton served in military units under Captain Samuel Comstock and Major General Israel Putnam. \nMeet at the Never Forget Garden at Hillside to commemorate Patriots’ Day! There will be remarks on the significance of Patriots’ Day and a reading of the names of 42 Patriots buried in three cemeteries: Hillside\, Comstock\, and Sharp Hill. Participants will place flags at the gravesites of each Patriot. \n
