SUMMARY:Author Talk: Melissa Clark–Dinner in French: My Recipes by Way of France: A Cookbook–CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED \nThe New York Times star food writer Melissa Clark breaks down the new French classics with 150 recipes that reflect a modern yet distinctly French sensibility in Dinner in French. \nA Q&A will follow the talk. There is no charge to attend but registration highly recommended. Register online or call 203.762.6334. Book signing and purchase will be available courtesy of Elm Street Books of New Canaan. The media sponsor is GOOD Morning Wilton. \nJust as Julia Child brought French cooking to twentieth-century America\, so now Clark brings French cooking into the 21st century. She first fell in love with France and French food as a child; her parents spent their August vacations traversing the country in search of the best meals with Melissa and her sister in tow. Near to her heart\, France is where Melissa’s family learned to cook and eat. And as her own culinary identity blossomed\, so too did her understanding of why French food is beloved by Americans. \nNow\, as one of the nation’s favorite cookbook authors and food writers\, Melissa updates classic French techniques and dishes to reflect how we cook\, shop\, and eat today. With recipes such as Salade Nicoise with Haricot Vert\, Cornmeal and Harissa Soufflé\, Scalloped Potato Gratin\, Lamb Shank Cassoulet\, Ratatouille Sheet-Pan Chicken\, Campari Olive Oil Cake\, and Apricot Tarte Tatin (to name a few)\, Dinner in French will quickly become a go-to resource and endure as an indispensable classic. \nMelissa Clark is the author of Dinner\, Dinner in an Instant\, and Comfort in an Instant and is a staff writer for The New York Times Food section\, where she writes the wildly popular food column\, “A Good Appetite.” The winner of multiple James Beard and IACP awards\, Melissa is the host of the “Weeknight Kitchen” podcast on The Splendid Table. Melissa earned an MFA in writing from Columbia\, and her work has been selected for the Best American Food Writing. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and daughter.

SUMMARY:Author Event: Kat Ashmore\, "Big Bites: Wholesome\, Comforting Recipes That Are Big on Flavor\, Nourishment\, and Fun"
DESCRIPTION:Home cooks looking for healthy comfort food\, this one is for you! Darien Library and Wilton Library\, along with Barrett Bookstore\, team up to welcome social media sensation\, Kat Ashmore\, creator of Kat Can Cook\, to talk about her new book\, Big Bites: Wholesome\, Comforting Recipes That Are Big on Flavor\, Nourishment\, and Fun. \nWith more than 2.3 million followers on social media\, creator of Kat Can Cook\, Ashmore introduces simple\, nourishing\, recipes that are big on flavor and reimagine the concept of “healthy food.” Ashmore’s mission is to empower hungry readers everywhere to feed themselves and their loved ones well and have fun doing it. Rather than focusing on restriction or deprivation\, she asks: What can we add to our plates? \nAfter she turned to TikTok for a creative outlet\, her series of big\, meal-in-a-bowl salads\, known affectionately as “Hungry Lady Salads\,” went viral on social media\, and she found a likeminded community of home cooks who wanted to fall in love with cooking again. In Ashmore’s debut cookbook\, she shares 110 wholesome\, mostly gluten-free recipes that are full of flavor\, nourishment\, and fun — and meant to be devoured in big bites! With her signature personality and joy\, this cookbook is a celebration of nature and seasonality and encourages home cooks to rethink familiar ingredients. \nAshmore is the chef\, recipe developer\, and digital creator behind Kat Can Cook. She graduated from the award-winning Institute of Culinary Education in New York and went on to work for Martha Stewart\, developing retail recipes and producing cooking segments on the eight-time Emmy Award-winning “The Martha Stewart Show.” Ashmore lives in Fairfield County\, Connecticut\, with her husband\, Michael\, and their family. \nThis event is cohosted by Darien Library and Wilton Library\, and will take place in Darien. Register on Darien Library’s website.
