SUMMARY:S.P.A.C.E.: Supportive Parenting of Anxious Childhood Emotions
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Eli Lebowitz\, associate professor in the Yale Child Study Center\, will speak to parents about the S.P.A.C.E. program\, which addresses childhood anxiety (from low level to severe) by teaching parenting skills. The program has been found to be effective in lessening the negative impact of anxiety on children and families. Come learn more about how changing parent behavior can positively impact your child and reduce the impact of anxiety on your entire family. Dr. Lebowitz will also lead a training session for professionals during the day on Nov. 4 and 5. This session is sponsored by the Wilton Public Schools\, SPED*NET Wilton\, Wilton SEPTA\, and Wilton Youth Council. \n*THE LOCATION HAS CHANGED:  The program is now being held in the Middlebrook School Auditorium. \nContact Lori Godin via email or by phone at 203.762.3381\, ext. 8312 with questions.

SUMMARY:Breaking Free of Child Anxiety and OCD Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Wilton Youth Council will host a Zoom webinar with Dr. Eli R. Lebowitz to discuss his groundbreaking book and ways parents and caregivers can help alleviate their children’s anxiety by changing the way they themselves respond to their children’s symptoms. \nBreaking Free of Child Anxiety and OCD: A Scientifically Proven Program for Parents by Eli R. Lebowitz\, PhD is the first and only book to provide a completely parent-based treatment program for child and adolescent anxiety.  Parents will learn how to alleviate their children’s anxiety by changing the way they themselves respond to their children’s behavior.  Instead\, parents are shown how to replace their own accommodating behaviors (which allow anxiety to flourish) with supportive responses that demonstrate both acceptance of children’s difficulties and confidence in their ability to cope.  From understanding child anxiety and OCD\, to learning how to talk with an anxious child\, to avoiding common traps and pitfalls (such as being overly protective or demanding) to identify the ways in which parents have been enabling a child’s anxious behaviors\, this book is full of detailed guidance and practical suggestions. \nRegister here.
