DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Arts Council is seeking photographers of all ages\, including youths and high school students\, to enter its 22nd annual photography exhibit\, “FOCUS ’20\,” to be held from March 7-27\, 2020 at the Wilton Library. Photographers are allowed to enter up to two of their photos\, which may be film or digital images in color or black and white\, and may be enhanced by darkroom or digital techniques. \nFOCUS ’20 entries will be judged by a panel of notable area photographers in three divisions:  Adult (professional and amateur combined)\, High School Student (9-12 grade) and Youth photographers (pre-elementary through 8th grade). Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded for:  Best of Show (which is open to all); first through fifth places in the adult division; and first\, second and third place in each of the high school and youth divisions. Ribbons will also be presented for honorable mention in each of the divisions. \nTo enter photos in FOCUS ‘20\, photographers may drop off their work at the Wilton Library on Saturday\, Feb. 29\, from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; and on Sunday\, March 1\, from 1:30-4:30 p.m.. Entry dimensions must be at least 8″ x 10″ framed and wired for hanging; there is no limit as to maximum size. DESCRIPTION:Kids going into grades K – 6 are invited to sign-up for Wilton Library Children’s Library’s “Imagine Your Story” themed Summer Library Adventure 2020 beginning June 11 through Aug. 28. \nThis year will be a special focus on reading and provide ideas for fun\, educational activities for the whole family. We are excited to offer this virtually\, innovative program for our community! \nThe reading portion of the Summer Adventure will use the Read and Bead reward system\, and “surprise” prizes will be distributed through the Drive-Thru window after July 1. In addition to the reading portion of the program\, we will have challenges for children to complete. SUMMARY:Ukrainian Egg (Pysanky) Decorating Workshop for Adults and Kids
DESCRIPTION:Learn the colorful and venerable craft of decorating eggs in the Ukrainian style\, known as pysanky (the name is derived from the Ukrainian verb meaning to write). Expert egg decorator Susan Clark will lead the Wilton Historical Society‘s workshop for adults and children. This ancient craft uses symbols and motifs to create a jewel-like egg. Intricate designs can be created with geometric forms\, or with more naturalistic\, flowing patterns. Participants will be using a kistka\, a pointed implement a bit like a pen\, filled with beeswax and heated\, to draw designs on the eggs between bathing them in colored dye. Decorate eggs in a traditional design\, or create your own. \nThe workshop is strictly limited to 20 participants. The program will take place in the Abbott Barn. Family groups will be seated together.  The fee — $30 for Wilton Historical Society members\, $40 for non-members — is per participant and includes materials. The program is suitable for adults and children ages 9 and up. \nRegistration is required via email or by calling 203.762.7257.

DESCRIPTION:Get ready for a winter blast of fun as Wilton Center is transformed into a wonderland of activities for the Wilton Chamber of Commerce‘s annual Winter Carnival! Proudly sponsored by Fairfield County Bank\, the Winter Carnival will be held on Sunday\, Feb. 4 from 12-4 p.m. at the Town Green with other exciting festivities simultaneously taking place around Wilton Center. \nStart off the event with a whimsical horse-drawn wagon ride around the Town Center\, sponsored by Kimco Realty\, and watch a live ice sculpting demonstration by the Gazebo and win prizes for our scavenger hunt by finding the beautiful ice sculptures throughout town! \nAdditional festivities will include a magic show\, character meet-and-greet with your favorite “winter princess and snowman\,” and carnival performers engaging adults and young ones at the Town Green. Activities to keep the kids busy will include face painting\, sand art\, and crafts — all provided by our local organizations participating in the event. \nA selection of food and beverage options will be available from our local food trucks\, Bubble and Brew\, and Cousins Maine Lobster. \nMake sure to stop by the pocket park near the entrance to Schenck’s Island where the Rotary Club of Wilton will be providing a bonfire and s’mores for roasting that afternoon. DESCRIPTION:The Miller-Driscoll School Carnival is making its return April 26-28! Save the Date and get ready for rides\, food and family fun! \nFriday\, April 26: 6 – 10 p.m.\nSaturday\, April 27: 1 – 10 p.m.\nSunday\, April 28: 1 – 5 p.m. \nIn addition to the fun and entertainment\, local food trucks will also be there\, namely 900 Degrees Pizza\, JJB\, Southern Wings and Things (SWAT)\, Cinnabomb Food Truck\, and College Creamery. Food trucks will open an hour before the carnival starts all 3 days. \nThe carnival is one of the school’s most significant fundraisers. Through ticket sales and local sponsor support\, the carnival raises funds that are used towards student enrichment programs\, educational workshops\, new materials\, and the fulfillment of grant requests. \nUnlimited ride wristbands will be available for purchase on-site for $35. Wristbands are good for one day only and cannot be reused over multiple days.
