DESCRIPTION:browngrotta arts presents its Spring 2022 Art in the Barn exhibition\, Crowdsourcing the Collective: survey of textile and mixed media art this May. Crowdsourcing will be documented in a full-color catalog (our 51st). Join us on Saturday\, May 7 for the Opening and Artists Reception or during the rest of the week\, May 8-15. \nThe 42 artists from 12 countries included in Crowdsourcing the Collective: a survey of textile and mixed media art illustrate the vitality of art textiles\, ceramics and mixed media. The new prominence of these art forms finds them the subject of exhibitions in major museums\, intermixed with paintings and traditional sculpture in ways unthinkable a decade ago. Many of the artists in Crowdsourcing began working in the ‘80s and ’90s\, when craft and fiber art were not well recognized; some have been working since fiber art’s first heyday in the ‘60s and ’70s. \nThe exhibition reflects an astonishing range of materials and techniques\, tapestries of silk and agave\, sculptures of seaweed\, seagrass and willow\, wall works made of sandpaper\, hemp and horsehair\, and ceramics of Shigaraki clay will all be included. The scope of these artists’ preoccupations is on view here\, too — from environmental concerns\, to questions of the cosmos and identity\, to explorations of material and process. It includes new work\, works from earlier periods\, and work from artists we have invited specifically for this exhibition. DESCRIPTION:Allies for Art: Work from the NATO-related countries runs Saturday\, Oct. 8 through Sunday\, Oct. 16 at browngrotta arts in Wilton. In contemplation of past and present political events\, the Fall Art in the Barn event highlights work from 21 countries in Eastern and Western Europe. \nThe nearly 50 artists in the exhibition reflect diverse perspectives and experiences. Allies for Art will include art created under occupation\, in the ‘60s\, ‘70s and ‘80s\, art by those who left Hungary\, Spain and Romania while occupied\, and who left Russia in later years\, including Jolanta Owidzka\, Zofia Butrymowicz\, Anna Sledziewska\, and Krystyna Wojtyna-Drouet of Poland\, Gyöngy Laky (Hungary/US)\, Ritzi Jacobi (Romania/Germany)\, Adela Akers (Spain/US)\, Aleksandra Stoyanov (Ukraine/Israel) and Irina Kolineskova (Russia/Germany). \nAllies for Art will also include more recent works created by artists who live in Europe\, including Gudrun Pagter of Denmark\, Åse Ljones of Norway\, Ulla-Maija Vikman of Finland\, Włodmierz Cygan of Poland and artists new to browngrotta arts\, including Esmé Hofman of the Netherlands and Baiba Osite of Latvia. \nThe exhibition will feature tapestries\, embroideries\, baskets and fiber sculpture made of wool\, sisal\, cotton\, antique textiles\, horsehair\, mica\, steel\, plant paper and other materials. \nMake your reservation to see the exceptional works in Art for Allies on Eventbrite.
