SUMMARY:34th Annual American Artisan Show at Wilton Historical Society
DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Historical Society will host the 34th annual American Artisan Show on Friday\, Nov. 8 and Saturday\, Nov. 9. The show runs 10 a.m.-5 p.m. both days. \nThe event is an important benefit for the Society\, supporting its education and historic preservation mission. More than 30 highly-skilled artisans from across the country will be presenting their hand-crafted contemporary and traditional furnishings and wearables. Furniture\, folk art\, pottery\, fine leather goods\, Nantucket-style baskets\, candles\, Windsor chairs\, art\, tavern signs\, fine jewelry\, photography\, and much more will be available for purchase. \nThe show is set in the Society’s historic 18th and 19th century buildings at 224 Danbury Rd./Rte. 7. New this year\, some artisans will be demonstrating their process on both days of the show. \n“People love to see how something is made – a sculptor and a furniture maker will be demonstrating in the 1860 Abbott Barn\, a blacksmith will be working in the historic blacksmith shop\, as well as a ceramicist in the gallery\,” Kim Mellin\, co-director of the Society\, commented. In addition\, Friday will be “Sip and Shop” day\, with something bubbly to enjoy while browsing. \nAdmission to the show is $10.00. \nA festive Preview and Silent Auction will kick off the show on Thursday\, Nov. 7 from 6-8 p.m. \, giving guests the first opportunity to browse and buy while enjoying fine hors d’oeuvres provided by Sarah Bouissou Catering at Bernard’s of Ridgefield. A signature cocktail will be provided by 5th State Distillery of Bridgeport. The Silent Auction will feature a series of exceptional and unusual “Experiences\,” in addition to unique objects contributed by the artisans. Tickets are $125. The Preview Party Committee is chaired by Katy Williams\, a trustee of the Society. \nJudy Higby chairs the Show. Selecting the skilled makers are volunteers and trustees Moira Craw and Catherine Romer\, plus Mellin. New to the show this year are contemporary leather goods made by Leitz Leather; fiber artist Sherry Dwivedi’s woven textiles; LMNT Jewelry; Mark A. Perry and his mixed media sculpture from Nantucket; Tatted Webs; Thaw Malin Art from Martha’s Vineyard; French Studio Design scarfs and textiles; mid-century/abstract style work from Rachel Paxton Fine Art; Steinhagen Pottery’s traditional redware; Paul Scott with 7 Barrels olive oils and vinegars; and Silverstone Design jewelry. \nReturning artisans include:  Josh Axelrod Photography; Barking Dog Jewelry Design Studio; Baskets in the Nantucket Tradition by Jane Theobald; Kristin Helberg with her tavern signs and vinegar-grained boxes; Meb’s Kitchenwares; Sue Brown Gordon jewelry; wood sculptor Chris LaMontagne; Kiara Matos Ceramics; William Morrison and his Windsor chairs; artist Kolene Spicher of Spicher and Company; and Villancourt Folk Art with their collectable holiday ornaments and figurines. \n“Pop-up” artisans (Friday and Saturday only) include Lauren Mullaney Jewelry (new); Petit Felts\, Emmy Starr Design jewelry\, Greystone Bookworks\, Madison Nally Jewelry (new)\, Salt Box Press stationary\, and Nod Hill Soap. SUMMARY:Make Your Own Autumn Lanterns
DESCRIPTION:The whole family is welcome to drop by our Craft Room in the Children’s Library at Wilton Library between 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for a community event centered around the end of daylight savings time and transition of the seasons. We’ll use leaves\, tissue paper and glue to turn ordinary jars into lanterns that can light up the darkness of the evening\, help us learn to embrace change\, and connect us to the cycles and rhythm of nature. \nNo registration is required.
