SUMMARY:Breaking Free of Child Anxiety and OCD Book Club (K-5th Grade)
DESCRIPTION:Wilton Youth Council\, Kim Zemo LCSW\, and Vanessa Elias Certified Parent Coach will host a Zoom book club to discuss Dr. Eli R. Lebowitz’s groundbreaking book and ways parents and caregivers can help alleviate their children’s anxiety by changing the way they themselves respond to their children’s symptoms. \nBreaking Free of Child Anxiety and OCD: A Scientifically Proven Program for Parents by Eli R. Lebowitz\, PhD is the first and only book to provide a completely parent-based treatment program for child and adolescent anxiety.  Parents will learn how to alleviate their children’s anxiety by changing the way they themselves respond to their children’s behavior. Instead\, parents are shown how to replace their own accommodating behaviors (which allow anxiety to flourish) with supportive responses that demonstrate both acceptance of children’s difficulties and confidence in their ability to cope.  From understanding child anxiety and OCD\, to learning how to talk with an anxious child\, to avoiding common traps and pitfalls (such as being overly protective or demanding) to identify the ways in which parents have been enabling a child’s anxious behaviors\, this book is full of detailed guidance and practical suggestions. \nEmail with the subject “Register for K-5th Book Club” to register.

SUMMARY:Coming Together: Responding to Unfinished Learning and Supporting Social-Emotional Health in the 2021-2022 School Year
DESCRIPTION:The 2020-2021 school year was unlike any in modern memory and has left many asking the question: Are kids prepared for the year ahead? While the pandemic has created much that is unprecedented\, unfinished learning is not new. Wilton’s educators are well-prepared to re-engage students in the concepts they’ll need to master in order to successfully navigate the upcoming year’s curriculum; as family members\, there is a great deal that can be done to support them in the process. \nPlease join a panel discussion led by Wilton Public Schools Assistant Superintendent\, Dr. Charles Smith Ed.D.\, that will address the district’s response to unfinished learning and plans for implementing a prioritized curriculum in the upcoming school year. In addition to WPS staff members\, Tracey Masella L.C.S.W.\, will join the panel to offer guidance on how families can support students and foster social-emotional well-being as kids make the transition back to full-time school. \nPanelists: \nCharles Smith\, Ed.D. — WPS Assistant Superintendent\, Curriculum and Instruction\nAndrea Leonardi — WPS Assistant Superintendent\, Special Services\nTrudy Denton — WPS Curriculum Coordinator – Math/Science\nKaren Brenneke — WPS Curriculum Coordinator – Humanities\nKim Zemo\, L.C.S.W — WPS\, Safe School Climate Coordinator\nTracey Masella\, L.C.S.W — Private Practice\, Silver Hill Hospital \nThis program is appropriate for parents of first-12th grade students. \nQuestions can be submitted to the panel in advance via email. \nSponsored by: Wilton Public Schools\, Wilton Youth Council\, Silver Hill Hospital\, SPED*NET Wilton\, and Wilton SEPTA
