SUMMARY:Hot & Cool Jazz: Chris Brubeck's Triple Play at The Wilton Library
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Wilton Library on Friday\, March 13 at 7 p.m. for their next Hot & Cool Jazz concert featuring Triple Play\, a trio of three outstanding and versatile musicians: Peter Madcat Ruth (on harmonica\, jaw harp\, percussion  & vocals)\, Joel Brown (folk and classical acoustic guitar & vocals)\, and Chris Brubeck (electric bass\, bass trombone\, piano & vocals). Collectively\, they bring a rare level of joy\, virtuosity\, and American spirit to the folk\, blues\, jazz\, and classical music they perform. \nHot & Cool Jazz is brought to you by the generosity of the Estate of James (Tom) and Alice Brown. Pre-registrants should arrive by 6:50 p.m. to be guaranteed seating; wait-listed\, walk-ins\, and pre-registrants will be admitted after 6:50 p.m. if space is available. There will be a reception following the concert with CDs available for sale and signing. \nTriple Play’s musical roots go way back (50+ years!) in each member’s history. Chris and Madcat have toured and recorded together in different settings since 1969\, first as young rock musicians in the group New Heavenly Blue (with albums on RCA and Atlantic Records)\, Sky King (on Columbia)\, and then as jazz musicians touring the world with Dave Brubeck. Paul deBarros\, writer for The Seattle Times and Downbeat\, commented after seeing a performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival: “Triple Play is what jazz always was and always should be about: good-time rhythm\, unbridled joy and the sweet release but bittersweet aftertaste of the blues.” \nDave Brubeck’s last recorded performance was captured on the exciting Triple Play Live at Arthur Zankel Music Center. The crowd is wildly enthusiastic on this well-reviewed CD\, which also featured Joel Brown’s father\, Frank Brown\, on clarinet. You can often hear this innovative version of “Take Five” featuring Madcat’s polyrhythmic jaw harp and burning solos by Dave\, Joel and Chris on Sirius XM Jazz. Triple Play’s music has international reach\, as they were a hit playing with The Singapore Chinese Orchestra and returned for a second performance which was recorded and released on Blue Forest Records. “It all fits together because of the talent and taste of the musicians\, who groove no matter what they’re doing and it’s tremendous fun\, to boot\,” said All About Jazz. \nRegistration is Required \nCapacity has been reached. Additional registrants will be placed on the waitlist.

SUMMARY:Wilton Candlelight Concerts: Tesla String Quartet
DESCRIPTION:The Tesla Quartet is known the world over for their “superb capacity to find the inner heart of everything they play\, regardless of era\, style\, or technical demand” (The International Review of Music). From cutting-edge contemporary works to established masterpieces\, the Tesla Quartet’s emotive and thoughtful interpretations reveal the ensemble’s deep commitment to the craft and to their ever-expanding repertoire. The quartet recognizes the power of their platform to amplify underrepresented voices and to encourage the proliferation of an equitable and just future for society as well as a hospitable climate for posterity. \nThe quartet performs regularly across North America and Europe\, with recent highlights including their debut at New York’s Lincoln Center\, a return to London’s Wigmore Hall\, and performances at Stanford University’s Bing Concert Hall as winners of the prestigious John Lad Prize. Other recent international engagements include tours of Brazil\, China\, and South Korea. Notable festival appearances include the Banff Centre International String Quartet Festival; the Joseph Haydn String Quartet Festival at the Esterházy Palace in Fertőd\, Hungary; the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival in Germany; and the Festival Sesc de Música de Câmara in São Paulo\, Brazil. \nThe Quartet commissioned 12 works by composers from across North America in 2020 for their online series Alternating Currents\, an homage to Beethoven and a celebration of diverse voices. Tesla Quartet has also helped pioneer ImmerSphere\, an immersive augmented reality virtual concert experience\, bringing familiar community stages directly into the homes of concert-starved audiences. With renewed hope for a brighter future\, the Tesla Quartet is focusing its efforts in the coming seasons on inspiring climate action with the commissions of several works for string quartet that touch on different aspects of the climate crisis and recovery. \nThe group originally formed at The Juilliard School in 2008 and quickly established itself as one of the most promising young ensembles in New York\, winning Second Prize at the J.C. Arriaga Chamber Music Competition only a few months after its inception. From 2009 to 2012\, the quartet held a fellowship as the Graduate String Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Colorado-Boulder\, where they studied with the world-renowned Takács Quartet. They have also held fellowships at the Aspen Music Festival’s Center for Advanced Quartet Studies\, the Britten-Pears Young Artist Program\, and the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. \nThe Tesla Quartet is Ross Snyder (violin)\, Michelle Lie (violin)\, Edwin Kaplan (viola)\, and Austin Fisher (cello). \n  \nThis event is on Sunday\, Mar. 22\, at 4:00 p.m. \nBuy Tickets Here
