DESCRIPTION:Please join Wilton Library and Wilton Pride on Tuesday\, April 25 at 7:00 p.m. for a community conversation on gender and sexuality.  This forum is a must for all who wish to be allies to the LGBTQ+ community. Led by Cadence Pentheny from the Triangle Community Center (TCC)\, this event will engage participants in a thorough overview of what it means to be LGBTQ+ and an ally. \nYou will walk away with: \n\nAn understanding how LGBTQ+ individuals are impacted by bias\, and an overview of best practices that protect safety and inclusion;\nAn understanding of what is meant by sexual orientation\, sexual identity\, gender identity\, gender expression\, and sex assigned at birth;\nLanguage and definition of terms associated with the LGBTQ+ community\, including lesser known terms;\nAn understanding of hetero-normativity\, the gender/sex binary\, and cis-normativity;\nThe opportunity to rethink the social norms and expectations surrounding sexuality and gender in society.\n\nCadence Pentheny (they/them) is Triangle Community Center’s passionate community educator. As leader of TCC’s LGBTQ+ Training Institute\, Pentheny is responsible for engaging with the wider community to provide educational opportunities and professional development surrounding LGBTQ+ cultural humility and allyship across Fairfield County and beyond. \nRegistration is strongly recommended. No bullying is ever allowed\, and everyone is given a chance to be heard in a safe and casual setting. \nThis group is brought to Wilton by Lighthouse\, a program of Kids in Crisis that serves lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, transgender\, queer+ (LGBTQ+) teens and their allies with a welcoming\, safe space weekly meeting. Lighthouse encourages LGBTQ youth to live their best\, healthiest\, and most authentic lives. \nTeens can drop in to share life experiences and feelings\, socialize\, snack\, and share common bonds in Lighthouse’s confidential\, non-threatening environment. Lighthouse hosts guest speakers\, trips\, barbecues\, parties\, and movie nights. \nLighthouse empowers LGBTQ youth to clarify issues\, gain skills and resiliency\, and envision and seek healthy\, productive\, and fulfilling adult lives. \nMeetings are held every Thursday at Comstock from 3:15-4:30 p.m.

Wilton Youth Council is pleased to bring Claudia Erickson\, BSW MPH and Unplugged Collaborative Co-Founder\, to deliver the keynote address for this year’s Mental Health Action Month. \nJoin Erickson at Wilton Library to learn more about the current technology landscape and what kids want their families to know about their relationship with social media. Furthermore\, discuss the greatest tech concerns of the time. Using the latest research\, Erickson will also provide practical\, creative ideas on how to encourage healthier digital habits in families. She will describe finding greater tech-life balance in a distracted world! \nErickson has over 20 years’ experience working in maternal child health for businesses such as San Diego State University\, Scripps\, Children’s Hospital\, and more. She notably founded Unplugged Village\, a digital wellness company that helps people spend less time with technology.
