SUMMARY:Taste in Time - Wilton Historical Society Benefit
DESCRIPTION:Step back into the past\, enjoy great food and drink\, and support your local community. On Saturday\, March 2\, from 6-9 p.m.\, the Wilton Historical Society invites guests to experience its beautiful and unique historic spaces while eating and drinking through different time periods. \nFor this brand new event\, the Society partners with Marcia Selden Catering of Stamford\, CT\, in creating a well-researched and historically inspired menu. Particularly\, tastes from the early Colonial years\, the Victorian era\, and the Prohibition speakeasy age immerse guests in nearly three centuries of Wilton culture. Guests are additionally invited to embrace this unparalleled historical setting — period costumes and dress are welcomed and encouraged! The Society’s charming and storied buildings — the c. 1770 Sloan-Raymond-Fitch House\, the c. 1740 Betts-Sturges-Blackmar House\, and the c. 1840 Burt Barn Gallery — will of course be decorated for the occasion. \nThe Society’s Development and Party Plan Committees’ hard work and dedication brought this event to fruition. Contributing committee members include Nancy Perez\, Katy Williams\, Mike Safko\, Hal Higby\, Ceci Maher\, Mary Anne Mendola Franco\, Amanda Mitchell\, Karen Tartell\, Sabeth Albert\, Virginia Gunther\, Abbey Dillon\, Jenna Garecht\, and Nick Foster. \n“We are thrilled to introduce this new event. It’s going to be a really unique experience\, since the setting and the atmosphere is something that can’t be recreated\,” says Perez\, President of the Board of Trustees of the Wilton Historical Society. “And it’s a great opportunity to support a community organization since all proceeds go directly towards our mission to preserve Wilton’s history\, and to connect\, engage and educate all who would look to the past to shape the future.” \nThis event is held at the Society’s Museum Complex\, 224 Danbury Road\, Wilton\, Connecticut. Tickets are for sale now online or call 203.762.7257.

SUMMARY:How Revolutionary: Fairfield County and the War for Independence Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Creating the United States of America was a radical act. The American Revolution\, from 1776 to today\, serves as a symbol of bold political action and the creation of a government based on new\, enlightened ideas. But was it truly revolutionary? The new country that emerged after the War for Independence did separate itself from a European monarchy\, but society in many ways looked much the same before\, during\, and after the United States was established. \nIn this lecture\, Wilton Historical Society Director Nick Foster uses archival evidence related to Fairfield County’s role in the Revolution to explore how radical America’s fight for independence truly was. Wilton\, like many surrounding communities\, experienced conflict between Patriots and Loyalists\, the harsh realities of war\, and difficult decisions about self-governance. The responses to these challenges present a more nuanced idea of “revolution”. \nThe lecture will be held at the Wilton Historical Society from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday\, Apr. 24. \nRegistration online is required. Admission is $10 per person for non-members\, free for Wilton Historical Society members. \n
