SUMMARY:Wilton Education Foundation's 2023 Annual Reading Rocks! Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:All Wilton Public School students in pre-K through fifth grade are invited to participate in the Wilton Education Foundation’s fun and non-competitive “Reading Rocks!” Read-A-Thon. The goal of Reading Rocks! is to encourage children to have fun reading while raising money for the Wilton Education Foundation — that means all proceeds benefit Wilton’s public schools! \nOn Friday\, Jan. 20\, all Miller-Driscoll Elementary and Cider Mill School students (and teachers) are encouraged to Dress Like a Rock Star because Reading Rocks! That morning\, they will be greeted with a fun ‘concert’ to celebrate the kick-off day. \nThis is the 12th year for the Reading Rocks! program. In the first 11 years\, Reading Rocks! raised almost $450\,000 in total for Wilton schools. This outstanding effort has helped WEF fund numerous programs\, including: \n\nMakerspaces in all four schools\nMiddlebrook’s Science Fair\nMiller-Driscoll’s MDTV news recording studio\nCider Mill School’s Learning Commons upgrade and video studio\nMiller-Driscoll’s student-run postal system\nDocument cameras used for remote learning technologies\nSeed money for the 6th-8th grade budding authors book publishing program\nOngoing professional development opportunities to support Wilton teachers implement cutting-edge curriculum initiatives\nand more\n\nThis year’s goal for Reading Rocks! is 100% student participation. Students can create an online pledge page to share with family and friends in support of their reading goal. A student can read independently\, be read to by someone else\, flip through a picture book\, or even read with someone over the phone or FaceTime/Zoom — anything goes that helps students celebrate reading.
