SUMMARY:Take A Walk in the Woods with Wilton Conservation Commission: Cherry Lane Park
DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Conservation Commission invites everyone to come for a Walk in the Woods at Cherry Lane Park. The commission will be guiding a walk on Sunday\, Jan. 26\, beginning at 1 p.m.. Commissioner Colleen O’Brien will lead the one mile walk and welcomes all to join\, including dogs on leash. If there is snow\, consider bringing snowshoes to use in this Town park\, as the terrain is gently sloped for this type of recreation. \nRefreshments will be served at the end of the walk\, allowing time to greet and chat with neighbors and representatives of the four partner organizations that make the Walks and Talks Program possible:  Norwalk River Watershed Association\, Wilton Garden Club\, Woodcock Nature Center\, and Wilton Land Conservation Trust. \nDirections to Cherry Lane Park:  From the junction of Rtes. 7 and 106\, follow Rte. 106 east for one mile to Cherry Ln.; turn right (south) onto Cherry Ln.; the entrance to the park is 0.3 miles on the left (east side of the road). \nThere is no fee to attend. Pre-registration via email is recommended should there be a need to postpone due to weather.

SUMMARY:Wilton Garden Club's Daffodil Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Garden Club is celebrating a very big birthday this year and everyone in town is invited to the Club’s first Daffodil Festival to take place on Saturday\, April 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wilton Historical Society. According to Nancy Greeley\, the Garden Club’s president\, “We thought a daffodil festival would be a fun way to kick off our centennial celebration and call attention to the thousands of daffodils we planted around town in the fall for our Wilton’s Golden Miles initiative.” \nThis will be a free one-way drive-through event with lots of contests for all ages to enter and festival-goers are encouraged to go a little “daffy\,” to think daffodils and participate in the fun\, including dressing up for the occasion. As you leave the festival\, follow the daffodil map that will be on display\, to enjoy the gorgeous blooms at six locations around town.

SUMMARY:Garden Club Celebrates 100th Anniversary with Flower Show
DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Garden Club will host a flower show on Friday\, Sept. 24 from 1-4 p.m. and Saturday\, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. as part of the Club’s Centennial celebrations. \nWilton’s historic Old Town Hall\, (2 Belden Hill Ln.) will be transformed with floral designs reflecting fashion and flowers during the last 100 years\, as well as photography\, conservation\, and local horticulture exhibits. \n“We are excited to celebrate our history in such a meaningful way with the community\,” said flower show Co-Chair Yolanda Bonomo\, who noted that Wilton Garden Club’s first flower show was held in 1922\, one year after its founding. \nThe public is invited to experience this extraordinary creative and educational event and enjoy the colorful displays evoking the history of the Club throughout the decades. This will be a judged National Garden Club Small Standard Flower Show. \nA Century of Flowers in Fashion will be a flower extravaganza as it spotlights 28 creative floral and botanical designs reflecting fashion and flowers in vogue from the Roaring 20s\, when the Club was established\, through the 1980s and to the present day. Expect to see Fancy Flapper\, Gatsby\, Rock and Roll\, Old Hollywood\, Disco and eclectic 1980s designs presented. \nAlways popular and fun to see will be the local horticulture display\, which will encompass a huge variety of prime flower specimens selected from Club Members’ gardens. A special treat this year will be the photography division\, entitled “Hometown Photo Shoot” with black and white and color photos capturing beauty and nature in Wilton. \nAn educational conservation exhibit will guide the public on the ecological importance of incorporating native plants in local landscapes and the necessity of identifying and removing invasive plants and shrubs to protect wildlife. Several other fascinating displays by the Club’s award-winning Youth Gardeners will demonstrate their design expertise as well as knowledge of horticulture. Wilton’s Girl Scouts will grace the Old Town Hall landscape with fairy garden mini vignettes designed by their collections of plant material in all shapes\, textures\, and colors. \nWilton is expected to remain lush and blooming after a hot and rain-filled summer turns to fall\, a perfect time for the public to enjoy the creativity of the Wilton Garden Club members as they showcase their commitment to horticulture\, education\, and conservation while celebrating the Club’s 100th birthday. \nThe event is free with a suggested $10 donation. Parking should be accessed from Belden Hill Rd. at Belden Hill Ln. near the Ridgefield Rd. intersection and traffic light. Masks are recommended and social distancing will be practiced in accordance with CT Department of Public Health guidelines. \nFind out more on the Wilton Garden Club’s website. \nThe Wilton Garden Club is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and a member of the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut\, National Garden Clubs\, Inc.\, and the New England Garden Clubs\, Inc. SUMMARY:Free Youth Gardening Program at Trackside
DESCRIPTION:Do you have a budding youth gardener?  The free Green Teens youth gardening program’s spring sessions have started at Trackside Teen Center. All rising middle and high school students are welcome. No gardening experience is necessary — just an interest in nature and in helping others\, as the program is rooted (no pun intended!) in community service. The program is held Wednesdays from 3:30-5 p.m. at Trackside\, from May 14-June 11. Sign up any time. The summer session Mondays 9-11 a.m. from June 23-Aug 11.  \nAn initiative of the Wilton Garden Club (WGC) and Trackside Teen Center\, Green Teens is led by experienced WGC gardeners. Its participants engage in hands-on activities like designing garden beds\, planting\, maintaining\, harvesting as well as learning about pollinators and how to cook with the produce grown in their gardens. They also hear from occasional guest speakers and make creative garden art projects. All of the produce grown is donated weekly to the Wilton Food Pantry and the fresh flowers grown are cut and arranged for the Wilton Senior Center. \n“Green Teens goal is to get more young people involved with creating and maintaining vegetable gardens\, to teach them about the importance of healthy foods\, and to give back to the community\,” Laurie Musilli\, co-chair of WGC’s youth gardening committee\, said. “There’s something in this program for everyone.” \nTo register\, contact Musilli via email or Pam Nobumoto via email. Sign-ups are welcome at any time; registration is ongoing. For more information visit the Green Teens page on the Trackside website.
