SUMMARY:Domestic Violence Awareness Month Proclamation
DESCRIPTION:First Selectwoman Lynne Vanderslice will read a Proclamation for Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Tuesday\, Oct. 8\, at 9 a.m. at Wilton High School. \nMembers of the Wilton Domestic Violence Task Force\, Wilton Police\, Teen PeaceWorks and other officials will be there. The event has usually been held at Town Hall\, but this year has been moved to a new location at Wilton High School in front of the flagpole (corner of Catalpa Rd. and Kristine Lily Way) in order to include some of the student population. \nTraditionally the members of the Teen PeaceWorks group have tied purple ribbons around trees in Wilton Center–the same number as the number of domestic violence calls received by the Wilton Police for that year. Instead\, the task force will use purple pinwheels to represent the number of calls this year.

DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT IS POSTPONED \nThe 18th Annual Wilton Police Awards\, sponsored by the Wilton Rotary Club\, will be held on Monday\, March 9\, at 6 p.m. in the Brubeck Room at the Wilton Library. \nEach year these awards recognize the Police Officers who protect and serve our community. This event is open to the public. Chief of Police John Lynch\, First Selectwoman Lynne Vanderslice and the police commissioners will be on hand to honor our men and women in blue. Some of the prestigious awards include Medal of Honor\, Medal of Valor\, Meritorious Police Service\, Police Officer of the Year\, and Community Police Officer of the Year. \nChartered in 1982\, the Wilton Rotary Club has raised and returned $750\,000 to the Wilton Community\, and to those in need\, around the world. Wilton Rotary is one of 35\,000 Rotary Clubs in 200 countries across the globe. The Club meets every Friday at 12:15 p.m. at Rolling Hills Country Club. SUMMARY:Police Headquarters Public Tour
DESCRIPTION:Residents who missed tours of the current Wilton Police Department headquarters in October have another chance to visit\, this Saturday\, Nov. 13\, between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. Members of the community are welcome to stop by anytime during these hours for a tour. \nThe tours are being offered in conjunction with the work of the Police-Town Hall Building Committee that was charged with studying the deficiencies and needs of the police headquarters. The committee subsequently made a recommendation to the Board of Selectmen for a new headquarters in front of the existing police building. The Board of Selectmen is expected to recommend a plan to the voters at a special town meeting in early 2022. The committee encourages residents to take advantage of the tours and to learn about the building’s challenges first hand. \nA public information session that took place in October is available online. Presented by Wilton Youth Council in partnership with Wilton Library\, Mountainside Treatment Center\, SPED*NET and Middlebrook PTA. \nPanelists include: \nMelissa McGarry is the project director for Trumbull’s Prevention Partnership\, a local prevention coalition that strives to prevent underage substance use and promote social and emotional wellness through education\, outreach\, enforcement and public policy. \nJohn Daviau\, MACP\, is a community psychologist\, certified dialogue educator and certified prevention specialist. He has extensive experience in providing evidence-based substance abuse prevention. \nAnthony Nave is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with master’s degrees in educational psychology and clinical social work. She also contributes to a biweekly dating column called\, Oh Dana that gives advice on relationship topics. Buckmir believes that storytelling not only entertains\, but reminds us that we are sharing a collective experience that makes us a little more connected and a little less lonely. This philosophy and her teaching background inspired her to create a workshop and coaching program\, Write your story: From Idea to Publication\, where she mentors aspiring authors. \nAnn Rodwell-Lawton is the Chief Operating Officer of the Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC). Ann oversees DVCC’s community initiatives\, direct services programs\, and quality assurance efforts. Ann has worked in the fields of domestic violence and sexual violence for ten years.
