DESCRIPTION:Wilton Pride has scheduled its inaugural event\, a community forum called “Ask Me Anything” on Thursday\, Feb. 2\, from 7-9 p.m. at Trackside Teen Center (15 Station Rd.). \nThe event is geared towards Wilton youth and parents and is intended to be educational. There will be a panel of “LGBTQ+ representatives” and attendees will be able to ask questions (anonymously and in advance)\, and connect with resources in what Wilton Pride promises will be a “safe and supportive environment.” \nPanel members include: \n\nClinical psychotherapist Michele Battey (moderator)\nCadence Pentheny\, Triangle Community Center Community Educator\nHeather Schlitz\, Middlebrook School physical education teacher; co-leader of Middlebrook’s Youth-2-Youth\, W.E.B. (eighth-grade leadership training) and Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) Club\nDrew McConnell\, Barcelona Wine Bar Director of Brand Marketing and fiancé Jaron Thomas\, Doctor of Audiology\nRob Comerford\, Wilton resident; Deloitte’s U.S. Audit and Assurance Practice Chief Knowledge Officer and LGBTQIA+ Community Resource Group leader\n\nMembers of the LGBTQ+ community and allies are invited\, and anyone wishing to attend is required to register online in advance. \nThe registration includes the statement that organizers “have worked very hard to make this event a safe place.” That includes requiring anyone wishing to attend to sign a Code of Conduct as part of the online registration. The Code of Conduct includes prohibiting cell phones and other recording devices inside Trackside during the event\, requiring attendees to treat other event attendees “with courtesy and consideration\,” and asking attendees to “behave in a manner that is consistent with an environment free from discrimination\, harassment or hate and… refrain from any conduct that infringes on the rights of others.” \nThe code adds that anyone displaying disruptive or disrespectful behavior or breaching the Code of Conduct will be required to leave the event.

Led by Cadence Pentheny from the Triangle Community Center (TCC)\, this event will engage participants in a thorough overview of what it means to be LGBTQ+ and an ally. \nYou will walk away with: \n\nAn understanding how LGBTQ+ individuals are impacted by bias\, and an overview of best practices that protect safety and inclusion;\nAn understanding of what is meant by sexual orientation\, sexual identity\, gender identity\, gender expression\, and sex assigned at birth;\nLanguage and definition of terms associated with the LGBTQ+ community\, including lesser known terms;\nAn understanding of hetero-normativity\, the gender/sex binary\, and cis-normativity;\nThe opportunity to rethink the social norms and expectations surrounding sexuality and gender in society.\n\nCadence Pentheny (they/them) is Triangle Community Center’s passionate community educator. DESCRIPTION:**This event has been POSTPONED** \nWilton Pride\, in partnership with the Norwalk River Valley Trail (NRVT)\, is pleased to announce the first Push N’ Pull Parade happening Sunday\, June 25\,  from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the NRVT in Wilton. The event will feature music\, festivities\, flare\, ‘Best’ contests\, and much more. The Parade is part of Be You\, a series of events organized by Wilton Pride in collaboration with town organizations and businesses to celebrate Pride Month in June. \nStart out at the trailhead on Rt. 7 at Wolfpit Road\, best accessed from across from the commuter parking lot in Wilton. Once there\, participants will check-in with registration\, be motivated to get into the parade spirit (including a selfie booth full with props and swag)\, and encouraged to enter the ‘Best’ contests (details below). \nThen paraders will take their Pride to the Trail! \nWalk\, dance\, run\, bike\, stroll\, roll\, and enjoy the beautiful NRVT. The parade route leads to the parking lot at Sharp Hill Road & Autumn Ridge Drive for the next bit of fun. \nOnce there\, participants can enjoy some treats\, listen to music\, and hang out. There will be an opportunity to meet new people\, learn about Proud Academy\, Pollinator Pathways\, and different ways to support the NRVT and Wilton Pride. Also\, all the ‘Best’ contest winners will be announced here! \nPride Best Dressed Contest: Make sure to Dress To Impress! DESCRIPTION:Join Wilton Library and Wilton Pride for Ask Me Anything 2024\, a community forum on “Understanding the Transgender and Non-binary Identity” on May 15\, at 7 p.m.\, in the library’s Brubeck Room. \nThis conversation breaks down gender and sexual diversity and rethinks historical and traditional assumptions around identity. It is therefore essential in understanding the transgender and non-binary identity. \nPanelists will cover:\n• Understanding the transgender and non-binary identity and community.\n• Importance of allyship in real life situations; understanding how bias impacts LGBTQ+ individuals\, particularly TGNCNBI (Transgender\, gender nonconforming\, non-binary\, and intersex); and an overview of best safety and inclusion practices.\n• Understanding what sexual orientation\, sexual identity\, gender identity\, gender expression\, and sex assigned at birth mean — their differences and impact on each other.\n• Language and definition of terms associated with the LGBTQ+ community\, including lesser known terms.\n• Understanding notions of hetero-normativity\, gender/sex binary\, and cis-normativity.\n• Rethinking social norms and expectations surrounding sexuality and gender in our society. \nModerator:\nSarah Malhotra (she/they) is the Director of Education at The Rowan Center\, and has worked in the prevention education field for 11+ years. She oversees prevention education programming on sexual violence for K-12 schools\, colleges and agency partnerships. \nPanelists:\n– Dr. Robyn Schlesinger (she/her) is an attorney and educator who has worked extensively with the LGBTQIA+ community\, nonprofit organizations\, and institutions of higher education. Schlesinger has also consulted with businesses\, schools\, and organizations to create inclusive workplaces and environments. She is currently the director of LGBTQIA+ programs\, resources\, innovation\, development\, and engagement (PRIDE) for Westchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS)\, the parent organization of Center Lane for LGBTQ+ youth.\n– Ace Ricker (he/him) has been an educator and advocate for the past 20 years. Through his company Awareness through Communication & Education\, LLC (A.C.E)\, he works with a wide variety of organizations\, religious forums\, K-12 schools\, colleges\, medical facilities and nonprofits\, delivering workshops\, talks and consultations on diversity\, inclusion and empowerment\, etc.\n– Remy (he/him) is an author\, graphic designer\, and community organizer based in Brooklyn\, NY. His work often centers around queer and trans people\, and mentoring and volunteering with transgender teens.
