SUMMARY:Halloween Family Portrait Fundraiser for Wilton Community Assistance Fund
DESCRIPTION:Local photographer Justin Baiad is continuing a Halloween tradition this year for the benefit of the Wilton Community Assistance Fund (WCAF)\, a not-for-profit\, 501(c)(3) fund that helps Wilton families\, seniors\, and individuals who are struggling with financial difficulties by offering emergency financial assistance through Wilton Social Services. \nIn prior years\, Baiad donated his talent to photograph families during the Wilton Halloween Walk and Trick or Treat Pumpkin Parade. As he has gotten to know the Wilton community\, Baiad wants to continue to support the WCAF in a socially distanced manner by bringing the annual Halloween fundraiser to residents’ front steps. \nOn the weekend of Oct. 24-25\, Baiad will be in Wilton neighborhoods to take Halloween photos outside homes (families\, kids\, and/or pets in their Halloween costumes). In exchange for a suggested donation to the WCAF of $25 or more\, families will receive Halloween portraits from Baiad as his contribution to the community. Cash or checks (payable to the Wilton Community Assistance Fund) will be accepted at the beginning of each photo session. \nImages will be available for download from Baiad within two to three weeks of the outdoor sessions. Each family gets a few images for its donation\, and 100% of the donations go to the WCAF. He will also award a complimentary holiday photo session to the family with the most creative costumes as judged by a small committee. \nIn order to schedule a Halloween portrait session\, please email Baiad before Oct. 21. Indicate a preference for a session on either Oct. 24 or 25\, and a range of available times between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. In case of rain\, an alternate date will be offered. (Alternate dates may also be available for families unavailable on Oct. 24-25\, e-mail inquiries). Baiad will contact all families on Oct. 23 with an approximate time for his visit.

SUMMARY:Kiwanis Club’s Fall “Feed Wilton” Gift Card Drive for Wilton Food Pantry
DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Kiwanis Club is holding its Fall 2021 Food Drive at Village Market (108 Old Ridgefield Rd.) on Friday\, Sept. 10 through Sunday\, Sept. 12. \nAs part of its “Feed Wilton” effort\, the Kiwanis Club traditionally holds quarterly food drives to benefit the Wilton Food Pantry. However\, because of the COVID-19 pandemic\, the club is restricted on what its members can collect. For now\, to maintain social distance and mitigate potential virus transmission\, volunteers will collect gift cards and cash only during the drive. All gift cards and proceeds will be donated to the Wilton Food Pantry. \nAlthough there will not be any collection outside Stop & Shop (due to the store’s corporate-wide pandemic policy)\, Stop & Shop gift cards are still welcomed. Those can be dropped off in the Kiwanis collection basket in front of Village Market during the Food Drive or mailed directly to: \nWilton Social Services\n180 School Rd\nWilton CT\, 06897\nAttention: Sarah Heath

SUMMARY:Author Talk: Dana Buckmir
DESCRIPTION:Connecticut native and author Dana Buckmir brings her story about surviving domestic violence and reclaiming her voice to Wilton Library during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Her most recent memoir\, Everything Will Be Okay\, will be the topic of conversation between Buckmir\, Chief Operating Officer of the Domestic Violence Crisis Center Ann Rodwell-Lawton\, and Deputy Chief Robert Cipolla from the Wilton Police Department. \nBuckmir is the author of Everything Will Be Okay and Plenty of Laughs: One Woman’s Journey Navigating the Online Dating Waters. She also contributes to a biweekly dating column called\, Oh Dana that gives advice on relationship topics. Buckmir believes that storytelling not only entertains\, but reminds us that we are sharing a collective experience that makes us a little more connected and a little less lonely. This philosophy and her teaching background inspired her to create a workshop and coaching program\, Write your story: From Idea to Publication\, where she mentors aspiring authors. \nAnn Rodwell-Lawton is the Chief Operating Officer of the Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC). Ann oversees DVCC’s community initiatives\, direct services programs\, and quality assurance efforts. Ann has worked in the fields of domestic violence and sexual violence for ten years. She integrates victim-centered approaches and brings a trauma-informed lens to the work at DVCC. \nBuckmir will be selling her book after the program and can accept cash\, check\, venmo\, or zelle as payment. \nCo-sponsored by Wilton Library\, the Domestic Violence Crisis Center\, the Wilton Domestic Violence Task Force\, the Riverbrook Regional YMCA\, the Wilton Police Department\, and Wilton Social Services. \nRegistration is required. Please register on the Wilton Library website.
