Sensory Friendly Station at Miller Driscoll Carnival

This weekend is the Miller Driscoll PTA Carnival, and all the lights, colors, noises and crowds may get a little overwhelming for some kids. So organizers are introducing something new at this year’s event–they’ll offer a Sensory-Friendly station on Sunday, Sept. 29 from 1-4 p.m., in collaboration with Sensory Kids, the Miller Driscoll PTA, and the Wilton Special Education PTA.

Among the features are:

  • guided therapeutic sensory breaks that can be customized for each child by certified occupational therapists (OT) who specialize in sensory processing difficulties.
  • a rest station containing items that children will be able to use for calming, including cozy bean bags, fidgets, noise cancelling headphones, and more
  • a station to customize individual sensory stress balls with a variety of textures
  • laminated take-home strategies
  • a ‘Guess the “Orbeez” raffle’ and win a fidget or sensory screening

On the Campaign Trail

Election season is in full swing. Democratic candidates for the upcoming municipal election were campaigning last Monday, Sept. 23 at the Wilton Train Station. State Sen. Will Haskell (D-26) joined Wilton candidates Ceci Maher (Bd. of Selectmen), Jung Soo Kim (Bd. of Finance), Deb McFadden (First Selectwoman) and Ross Tartell (Bd. of Selectmen).

Paddle Tennis Season Kicks Off

With Fall in the air, hundreds of Wilton residents will soon be hitting the paddle tennis courts. Last Saturday, Sept. 21, the 2019 Paddle Tennis season officially launched at the 2019 Paddle Player Open, the first tournament of the season.

The tournament was held at 12 different clubs throughout Fairfield County included local venues, the Wilton YMCA, the Lake Club and Rolling Hills Country Club, with 76 teams competing across four divisions.

Wilton Singers get Arts Grant

Congratulations to the Wilton Singers for receiving $2,700 supporting arts grant from the CT Office of the Arts. The Supporting Arts grant program provides unrestricted funding to help support Connecticut’s arts organizations and municipal arts departments as they pursue their mission. This type of grant is flexible rather than for specific projects or programs and gives the grantee the ability to use the funds where they are most needed. There were 109 FY2020 supporting arts grants awarded this year.
