Newcomers Help Police Capt. Conlan After House Fire

The Wilton Newcomers Club is hosting a fundraising evening at Marly’s Bar & Bistro this coming Monday, Nov. 6, from 6-10 p.m., to benefit Wilton Police Captain Tom Conlan, who lost his home to a house fire last month. Newcomers’ board members will be serving drinks behind the bar, and all bar tips will be split to benefit and provide support for Conlan and his family as they rebuild their home, as well as Wilton Social Services which provides support for many Wilton families in need.

Anyone can attend and participate. Marly’s is located at 101 Old Ridgefield Rd. in Wilton Center.

Wilton Teen who Survived Cancer Fundraises for Cancer Hospital

Wilton High School graduate (Class of 2017) Isabella Bernardini is a student at Southern Methodist University. She’s also a cancer survivor. She’s fundraising as part of SMU’s Dance Marathon fundraiser to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.

On her website fundraising page, she writes:

“As most of you know, almost two years ago I was diagnosed with a brain tumor classified as an anapestic astrocytoma. After my surgery in January of 2016, I completed seven weeks of proton radiation and a year and a half of chemo therapy. Thanks to the incredible medical care I’ve received at Columbia Presbyterian in New York and Children’s Health in Dallas, I’m proud to now be cancer free and finished with the invasive treatments.

“Without the care I received from my local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital here in Dallas and the incredible support from family and friends, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’ve recognized the precious gift I was given when I not only survived but conquered cancer and now it is my mission to ensure no child suffers through illness or injury alone. Every child deserves the incredible care and support I was blessed with and now, through SMU Dance Marathon, I have the opportunity to make a difference.

“I truly hope you will consider supporting my participation in this event. All contributions will benefit my local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital where I received my treatments last school year and continue to go to every three months for MRIs and follow up appointments. Any contribution will help, and all donations are tax deductible. To make an online donation please click the ‘Support Me’ button on this page.”

Isabella has already surpassed her $2,500 goal, and has raised $10,000. Hopefully, Wilton residents will help her grow that total even more.
