Bd. of Ed Update on Weighted Grades

At last night’s (Thursday, June 25) Board of Education meeting, the Communications, Alignment and Policy subcommittee provided an update on the board’s progress reviewing the policy on weighting grades. Board member Christine Finkelstein told the other members that they will be planning site visits this summer to approximately six other high-achieving school districts to study their existing policies. They hope to conclude those visits by the end of August, saying, “We want to move quickly on that.”

Top 5 Adult Education Classes, and a Tennis Court Update

The Wilton Continuing Education (WCE) administrators made their annual presentation to the Board of Education at last night’s board meeting, updating school officials on how the program performed and what new classes were implemented over the prior school year.

Among the highlights, program coordinator Dolores Tufariello listed the top five adult education classes, by enrollment, which were:

  1. Indian Dance
  2. “Wine and Your Waistline,” which she explained was a class on, “how to have a drink (or 2 or 3) and still keep your weight down
  3. Craft Beer
  4. Tennis
  5. “Think you Can’t, Now you Can!” which is a class on canning.

Of note, board members asked Tufariello about the condition of the town tennis courts, which are used for all WCE tennis programs (adult and children). Tufariello said that the courts are of a great concern–showing significant wear and tear, especially at the baseline, where much of the play happens.

“We’re definitely fearful, that’s a big liability. We really hope to see them repaved,” she told the board.
