SUMMARY:Wilton High School St. Baldrick’s
DESCRIPTION:Please join Wilton High School for another St. Baldrick’s celebration on Tuesday\, March 7. It’s our 15th annual fundraiser to fight childhood cancer by funding pediatric cancer research. Many thanks in advance for considering helping us with this cause.\n\n\nThe St. Baldrick’s Foundation raises awareness and funds to fight childhood cancer. While battling cancer\, children may not lose only their hair but also years of their childhood\, and sometimes their lives. Participants in a St. Baldrick’s event shave their heads in exchange for donations towards research. It’s a simple concept\, a fun time and a very effective fundraiser. Since its founding in 2000 by three men\, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation has raised well over $50 million with head shavings in 18 countries and shaved over 390\,000 heads.\n\n\nAt the 14th annual Wilton High School St. Baldrick’s Shaving fundraiser for the National St. Baldrick’s Organization last March\, 42 participants raised over $53\,000 to fund research with a hope of finding a cure for pediatric cancer. Since the WHS group’s inception\, the event has raised over $350\,000 and “shaved” over 700 heads.\n\n\nThis hair-cutting event involves extensive planning and coordination. We consistently bring together various aspects of the Wilton community including local businesses and our school population to raise money and watch our students shave off their hair at the culminating evening. We begin planning at least 10 months before our event\, then held monthly meetings following a comprehensive agenda. We procured licensed barbers. We requested the presence of our school nurse (just in case). Again our custodial staff and secretarial staff plus parents volunteered their time to help us during the event.\n\n\nOur team is comprised of Wilton High School students and staff which started under the student leadership of Reed Dempsey for an area child diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma at age 2½ who is now cancer free. For our first two years\, we participated with the Fairfield-based TeamBrent\, but eventually\, members of WHS created its own offshoot in 2009.\n\n \n\n\nOn March 7\, we will be hosting our 15th shaving event in the Wilton High School cafeteria. Help us raise awareness and money and watch our volunteers. Consider getting your head shaved with us. For more information\, contact Mr. Liptack (a Knight!)\, and Mr. Pompa (our own Commander of the Knights of the Bald Table). Register online by Monday\, Feb. 6\, or donate at any time on the same site\, or simply come watch us that night.\n\n\nEither way please celebrate with us…and watch the hair fly!\n\n\nThe 2023 organizing committee: George Hahn (lead organizer)\, Will Fischer\, Owen Theoharides\, Jackson Duncan\, Harry Polito\, Evan Arghirescu and Hudson Hagmann.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...
