SUMMARY:Spring Migration 2023 – Birding Walks at Allen’s Meadow
DESCRIPTION:Join expert birder\, environmentalist\, gardener\, and Wilton resident Joe Bear for a series of free spring migration bird walks. Joe has been birding for over 30 years\, having led both domestic and international trips for the CT Audubon Society and other nature-based organizations.\n\n\nBear will lead this leisurely two-hour walk through the diverse habitats this birding hot spot\, Allen’s Meadow\, has to offer – open fields\, woodlands\, edges\, pond and swamp – to seek out returning summer residents\, those on their way to northern nesting grounds\, and maybe a vagrant or two. Previous spring walks have yielded a wide variety of species including Orchard Orioles\, Bobolinks\, Indigo Buntings\, Baltimore Orioles\, Scarlet Tanagers\, Eastern Kingbirds\, Warblers (including Yellow\, Wilson’s\, Blue-winged\, Northern Parula\, Black and White\, American Redstart\, Blackpoll\, etc)\, and Vireos\, as well as Bluebirds and Tree Swallows tending nest boxes erected by Bear.\n\n\nWalks will take place rain or shine. Bring your binoculars!\n\n\nMeet on the west side of the playing fields at Allen’s Meadow. Park in front of the Field 6 sign.\n\n\nEvent dates: April 18\, April 27\, May 6  and May 16 from 8 a.m.-10 a.m.\n\n \n\n\nRegistration is required. Participation is limited to 12 participants per date.  Register online.\n\n\nFor more information\, contact Joe Bear.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

SUMMARY:Birding Allen’s Meadow and its Community Gardens with Joe Bear
DESCRIPTION:Fall migration is underway with millions of birds taking to the skies having left their North American breeding grounds and heading south to their wintering grounds\, in some cases as far south as the Pampas grasslands in Argentina. Allen’s Meadow is a well-known birding “hot spot” within the state and beyond due to its confluence of habitats including open fields\, woods\, edges\, wetlands\, and especially its Community Gardens\, which offer a buffet of food to hungry migrants.\n\n\nCome join Wilton resident and expert birder Joe Bear to look for warblers\, vireos\, tanagers\, orioles\, an assortment of sparrows\, and several species of raptors occupying the skies. Bring binoculars and meet at the north end of the parking lot near the Field 6 sign. This is a Norwalk River Watershed Association-sponsored event.\n\n\nThere are four separate events\, register online for any of the walks.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

SUMMARY:Birding at Allen's Meadow with Joe Bear
DESCRIPTION:Fall migration has begun with millions of birds taking to the skies having left their North American breeding grounds and heading as far south as the Pampas grasslands in Argentina for the Winter. Allen’s Meadow is a well-known hot spot due to its open fields\, woodland edges\, and water features. Come join Wilton resident and expert birder Joe Bear as we look for warblers\, vireos\, tanagers\, orioles\, an assortment of sparrows\, and several species of raptors occupying the skies. Bring binoculars and meet at the north end of the parking lot near the Field 6 sign. This is a Norwalk River Watershed Association-sponsored event.\n\n\nThere are four events\, register online for any of the walks.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...
