SUMMARY:Trees for Trout — Tree Ecocycling with Trout Unlimited
DESCRIPTION:Trees for Trout is back in Wilton!\n\n\nConsider “eco-cycling” your tree with Trout Unlimited to help improve the health of our local rivers! Each year\, millions of Christmas trees are simply discarded after the holidays\, but can go to good use providing habitat for a number of species.\n\n\nTU volunteers will happily turn your natural tree into important habitat for trout in the Norwalk River. Your tree will join others in helping stabilize stream-banks\, reduce erosion and create refuge habitat for juvenile trout and other aquatic life during projects all summer long.\n\n\nCollection will take place on both Saturday\, Jan. 3 and Saturday\, Jan. 10 at Merwin Meadows Park from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. both days. Just drive up with your tree and our volunteers will take care of the rest.\n\n\nSuggested donation is $10\n\n \n\n\nFriendly reminder: natural trees only — synthetic trees or trees with tinsel or flocking cannot be accepted.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

SUMMARY:Norwalk River Dam Removal Tour
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, June 4 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. come see first-hand how the Norwalk River is being reborn thanks to the dam removal currently taking place and habitat restoration efforts spanning back more than three decades. Join Trout Unlimited and Save the Sound for a walking tour of the river at Merwin Meadows Park. This event is free\, open to the public and all are welcome\, including families and children.\n\n\nThe casual walk along the river trail will highlight past stream restoration sites\, ongoing native tree planting projects and – most exciting – an overview of the dam removal currently taking place to the river to sea-run fish and other aquatic species. If luck and weather holds\, attendees may also spot native sea lamprey that have been spawning in the river for the first time in 125 years after the successful removal of the Flock Dam downstream in Norwalk in 2018.\n\n\nThe talk and tour will also celebrate the success of the partnership with the town of Wilton\, Wilton Land Conservation Trust\, Wilton Go Green\, Norwalk River Watershed Association\, Southwest Conservation District\, Norwalk River Valley Trail and many more local and community partners who have made this decades-long work possible.\n\n\nRegister on the Mianus Chapter Trout Unlimited website.\n\n\nFounded in 1973\, the Mianus Chapter of Trout Unlimited is a grassroots conservation nonprofit organization with more than 5\,000 members and supporters in the towns of Greenwich\, Stamford\, Darien\, New Canaan\, Norwalk\, Wilton and Ridgefield. The chapter works to protect and restore local rivers resources through active restoration projects\, education initiatives and public advocacy.\n\n \n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...
