DESCRIPTION:Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic\, Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Academy‘s (OLFCA) Annual Fundraising Gala and Live Auction has moved online. The Wilton Catholic school will host an online fundraising auction from Dec. 11-18 (ending at midnight) featuring gifts to celebrate the winter season.\n\n\n“The Annual Gala and Live Auction represents our largest fundraising effort of the year. We are embracing the ‘new normal’ by bringing this event online\,” noted fundraising chair Clara Taveras. “All the items have been donated by parents\, alumni\, and members of our larger community. The Online Auction will provide a safe\, socially-distanced experience for people to shop or donate to support OLFCA.”\n\n\nOrganizers say that this year’s Auction features gifts to celebrate any winter holiday\, as well as selections specific to Christmas. The selections include such items as a Solo Stove kit\, sporting gear\, COVID-19 survival baskets\, and gift baskets featuring items from local merchants. The auction also provides options to support OLFCA or provide a special “thank you” to the OLFCA teachers.\n\n\nA preview of the items is available now online\, with bidding starting on Friday\, Dec. 11\, and running through midnight on Friday\, Dec. 18.\n\n\n“In these extraordinary times\, our teachers and staff have been exceptional. SUMMARY:Fall Walk-A-Thon at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Academy
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, Nov. 8\, at 12:45 p.m.\, Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Academy will hold its Fall Walk-A-Thon. This is one of the school’s major fundraising events of the year\, but it will also benefit the community–10% of all funds raised in the walk-a-thon will be donated to local area food banks (Norwalk and Wilton).\n\n\nStudents and faculty will walk a designated route on the school and adjacent church property. Each grade will choose a canonized saint to remember and honor in their walk. “The saints will be our inspiration for the walk\,” said school principal Stanley Steele. “The walk-a-thon is a perfect opportunity for our students to see what ‘service above self’ really means. We work hard to instill the notion of giving back to the community and helping those in need\, as the saints did. And we’ll have a little fun in the process\, too.”\n\n\nIn addition to working on class projects to showcase their spirit and support for the event\, students have garnered pledges of support from family\, friends and neighbors. Businesses and individuals interested in supporting walk-a-thon participants are also welcome to make donations and may contact the school. SUMMARY:Stop The Bleed–Presented by Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps (WVAC) and Our Lady of Fatima (OLF)
DESCRIPTION:Today we live in a world where terrorism\, the actions of unstable people\, and the dangerous impulses of friends and relatives are very real and becoming increasingly more frequent.\n\n\nMassive bleeding from any cause\, but particularly from an active shooter or explosive event where a response is delayed can result in death. Similar to how the general public learns and performs CPR\, the public must learn proper bleeding control techniques\, including how to use their hands\, dressings\, and tourniquets. Victims can quickly die from uncontrolled bleeding\, within five to 10 minutes.\n\n\nHowever\, anyone at the scene can act as immediate responder and save lives if they know what to do.\n\n\nThe Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps is offering this FREE training to teens in cooperation with Our Lady of Fatima’s Youth Group.\n\n\nFAQs:\n\n \n\n\nAre there registration requirements?\n\n\nYes. It is important that each student be given adequate time and instruction with an instructor. We need to know in advance as to how many participants to expect\, to ensure we have enough supplies and instructors on hand\, thereby making advanced registration required.\n\n\nParticpants will be required to fill out a waiver that they should complete and bring to the event. This waiver will be sent to you via email after registering. Registration can be completed online.\n\n\nAre there any age restrictions for attending this class?\n\n\nDue to the nature of the content of this paticular class\, the participants should be at least 13 years of age. The target audience for this particular class is teens between 13-18 years old.\n\n\nIs there a cost associated with this event?\n\n\nNo. This training is offered free of charge as a service to the community by the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps. That being said\, WVAC is 100% a volunteer\, non-for-profit 501(c)3 organization–and not a department within the Town of Wilton–which relies heavily on donations from the community.
