The Wilton Little League softball 10-under district all-star team begins their run for a District One title this weekend as Wilton plays Rowayton this Sunday, July 2, at noon at Wilton’s Middlebrook 1 softball field in Wilton. Last year Wilton was the runner-up in District One tournament. With many of last year’s starting players returning to the team and with the addition of some new faces, Wilton hopes to capture its first District One softball title in over 20 years.

Members of this year’s all-star team are Marin Burke, Grace Costa, Grace Couch, Lauren Davis, Gracie DiBuono-Krafick, Eva Filipponi, Grace Guglielmo, Katie Kelly, Sadie Klyver, Annie McMahon, Lauren Sanfilippo, Abby Seeberger and Teagan Stengrim. Managing this year’s team is Chris Kelly with coaches Matt McMahon and George Krafick.

Game two of the District tournament will be against Darien on Tuesday, July 4, at 10 a.m. at McGuane Challenger Park in Darien. If the team is successful in those games they can advance to the championship on Saturday, July 8 in Darien.

This year’s district all-star team is loaded with a number of big hitters and anchored by a solid defense and pitching staff.

“This a very talented group of girls selected by their teammates and coaches from four different Little League teams to represent Wilton in the District One tournament,” Coach Kelly says, adding that the experience from last year’s District playoffs should give this team an edge. “Last year was a great experience for many of these girls as Wilton had not fielded a 10-U District team in a few years. This year, the girls have dedicated themselves to improving the level of their play and with the prior experience, they should be a very competitive team.”

The team is led by a strong pitching staff, with players Davis, Guglielmo, DiBuono-Krafick and Couch taking the mound. Rounding out the infield will be Burke, Filipponi, Kelly and Klyver along with outfielders Costa, Sanfilippo, Seeberger, McMahon and Stengrim.

“The girls have worked very hard, all have a great attitude and we are excited to represent Wilton and hope to advance to the Championship game of the tournament,” Kelly says.

Fans are encouraged to come out to this week’s games and cheer on Wilton as they pursue a District One Softball Championship.
