In celebration of a new project at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, church officials are bringing The New Baroque Soloists to their wonderful space for a festive concert of music and education. The New Baroque Soloists is a CT-based ensemble which offers audiences an exciting new presentation of baroque chamber music, rich in the voices of woodwinds, brass, and stringed instruments. The group offers a varied repertoire, including popular works by well-known composers as well as premieres from the group’s proprietary repertoire, compiled through 20 years of research and performance. This group of world-class performers presents its concerts in an informative yet enjoyable manner, suitable for people of all ages.

The concert will be held this Sunday, Jan. 28 at 4 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Church (36 New Canaan Rd.) on the WEPCO campus.

This event is sponsored by the new Ian Havens Harleman Music Appreciation Fund, established in memory of former St. Matthew’s parishioner and lifelong Wilton resident, Ian Harleman. Ian’s father, Robert Harleman, explains how important music was to his son.

“Ian was passionate about music and always reached out to others, especially those younger. The funds raised in his honor reflect his passion for music and his family is pleased that they can be used to benefit St. Matthew’s and its music program.”

This fund will be used for educational opportunities for St. Matthew’s choir members, continued work in the Royal School of Church Music Voice for Life program, children’s concerts, and other opportunities to bring music to the young people of Wilton and beyond.

St. Matthew’s Adult Choir, Youth Choir, and Choir of Boys & Girls of St. Matthew’s will perform a few Baroque favorites with the group in this brilliant concert. To continue with the philosophy of bringing music and music education to children, all young people can attend for free. Tickets ($20 each) are available in the Music Office at St. Matthew’s church. For more information, please contact St. Matthew’s director of music, Fiona Sutherland via email. A gala reception will follow where all can meet and greet the musicians.
