The volunteers of Wilton’s Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County were honored recently at an awards ceremony and luncheon at Bernard’s Inn. Nine individuals received special recognition for their outstanding commitment, compassion and dedication to volunteer service.
Of those honored, three are Wilton residents. Larry Schloss received an award for his work as a hospice volunteer; Novella Tortorella received an award for her volunteer work at the Turnover Shop of Wilton; and Dr. Kesav Nair of Wilton received an award for his volunteer work on the Agency’s Board of Directors;
Other volunteers who were recognized were Kimberly Lewis of Darien and her pet therapy dog, Sophie, and Harvey Kravitz of Fairfield and his pet therapy dog, Scooter, who received awards for their volunteer work as patient support volunteers; Tammy Ruffin of New Canaan, who received an award for her volunteer work at the New Canaan Thrift Shop; Hal Shuck of Westport, who received an award for his volunteer work in Development; and Connie McCann of Fairfield, who received an award for her work as an office volunteer.
New Canaan’s Nancy Schulman received the Agency’s highest honor, The Carol B. Bauer Community Spirit Award, for her outstanding service as a hospice volunteer.
“This award was established in honor of Carol Bauer of Wilton, whose spirit and devotion to volunteerism is unsurpassed in the community,” said Sharon Bradley, the president and CEO of Visiting Nurse & Hospice. “The Carol B. Bauer Award is presented each year to that special individual who embodies the ideals of volunteerism. In the time that she has been volunteering with our agency, Nancy has demonstrated a commitment to helping patients and families at the most vulnerable time in their lives. She has said that visiting sick patients fills her soul. Nancy is a kind and energetic person and we are grateful for her service.”
“Nancy Schulman exemplifies the true spirit of volunteerism,” said Bauer, who was present at the awards ceremony. “It is with deep gratitude that we recognize Nancy for her compassionate contribution to the mission of Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County.”
