DESCRIPTION:Turn a holiday that’s traditionally orange into one that’s a bit more green!\n\n\nWilton Go Green is partnering with Ambler Farm to offer our first Pumpkin Compost Drop-Off! Visit the farm any time from dawn to dusk between November 1 and 5 to drop off your jack-o-lanterns\, pumpkins or gourds to be composted right here at the farm. Please note\, no paint\, glitter\, googly eyes or candles are compostable as they can contaminate the compost when processed. No other food scraps or other organic materials can be dropped off.\n\n\nPull into the main entrance at 257 Hurlbutt St. and head to the top of the driveway by the Red Barn. Look for signage for the Pumpkin Drop and you can drop your goods in the bins provided.\n\n\nWhy should you compost your pumpkins?\n\n\n1.3 billion pounds of pumpkins sent to incinerators and landfills annually in the U.S.\n\n \n\n\nDiverting this material from incineration cuts pollution generated by burning waste\, which negatively impacts public health.\n\n\nWhen left to decompose in the landfill\, that food waste produces methane gas\, a greenhouse gas that’s far more potent than carbon dioxide.\n\n\nPumpkins and gourds are 90% water and are full of nutrients. Composting the organic materials captures these nutrients and water\, creating a soil amendment to benefit our parks\, gardens and farms.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

DESCRIPTION:Come together as a community through creativity and camaraderie while paying tribute to Ambler Farm’s feathered friends. This year’s Birdhouse Building Competition invites builders of all skill levels to create the ultimate birdhouse to be hung around Ambler Farm and voted on by farm-goers over two-plus weeks in April. With your entry fee\, you will have the opportunity to participate in one of two building workshops run by Ambler’s own master builder\, Matt Oricchio and the apprentice builders\, access materials donated by Ring’s End\, and participate in a Walk + Talk Birding Adventure with Program Director Stacey Valimont.\n\n\nKey Dates:\n\n\n\nSaturday\, March 19\, 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.: Birdhouse Building Workshops with Matt Oricchio and Ambler Farm’s apprentice builders (Optional — included in entry fee)\nSaturday\, March 26\, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: Birdhouse submissions can be dropped off at the Red Barn\nSaturday\, April 2\, 12 p.m.: “A Walk + Talk Birding Adventure” with Program Director Stacey Valimont\nMonday\, April 18: Winner announced! DESCRIPTION:Do you ever wish your garden would yield the same beautiful produce that Ambler Farm‘s own Farmer Jonathan Kirschner grows? It can! Now is the time to start planning for your home garden. Jonathan\, Ambler Farm’s director of agriculture\, is offering this virtual workshop to guide you on your way to the most bountiful home garden. He will walk through the steps that he takes at Ambler Farm and how to adapt these processes for your own garden. Topics Jonathan will discuss include: crop selection\, starting seedlings\, timing\, spacing\, basic soil nutrition and home composting\, and basic garden design.\n\n\n$30 for nonmembers; $25 for members; registration begins Feb. 18 for members and opens to nonmembers on Feb. 25 (space permitting).\n\n\nThis event is being held in person but will be accessible via Zoom as well.\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...
