DESCRIPTION:Wilton Parks and Recreation is putting on a free movie night for Wilton residents on Friday\, Sept. 28\, with a showing of Disney/Pixar’s Coco. The movie will run from 7:15-9 p.m. at Merwin Meadows Park. Free popcorn will be given out on a first come\, first serve basis until it runs out.\n\n\n*The event location has been changed to the Cider Mill School Gym.\nBring a non-alcoholic beverage and any picnic items you may want with your chair or blankets and enjoy the outdoor movie experience. Come early to get your space and have a picnic on the grass or at one of the picnic tables in the park.\n\n\nNo pets please. Pets are not allowed in the park. SUMMARY:5K Run and Walk to Benefit Education in India
DESCRIPTION:Education is a central Wilton topic–most usually with a very local focus. But now\, one organization with ties to more remote areas in Asia is devoting some of that focus to education overseas.\n\n\nA local\, CT chapter of an organization called Ekal Vidyalaya\, made up of families with ties to India\, is organizing a fundraising effort to continue their support of growing education in rural and tribal Indian communities. Ekal Vidyalaya is a movement focused on creating and growing one-teacher schools in remote Indian villages to bring education to all children in the country. Since starting in 1986\, Ekal has become the largest grassroots level non-governmental education and development movement operating in rural India.\n\n\nEkal Vidyalaya is organizing 5K Run and Walk on Sunday\, Sept. 16 in Merwin Meadows\, starting at 9 a.m.\, to raise funds to continue their work. Registration to take part in the 5K costs $20 per adult\, $10 per child.\n\n\nThe CT chapter of Ekal was started in 2010. That year the group raised funds for 100 schools and has continued to grow 30% every year\, contributing a total of 500+ schools by 2018. There are approximately 50 families in Fairfield County who have been involved in the local effort. 500 schools are part of the 75\,000 schools created by the global effort\, impacting more than 2 million students.\n\n\nAccording to the Ekal website\, the movement aims to help eradicate illiteracy from rural and tribal India\, following a philosophy of rural development based on criteria of equality and inclusiveness across all sections of society.\n\n \n\n\nEkal says each school is managed and run for just $365 a year. The money funds teachers more than physical infrastructure or buildings. It hires and trains teachers\, and aims to utilize physical space free of cost. SUMMARY:Free Family Day Concert Featuring "Graceland"'s Bakithi Kumalo and More
DESCRIPTION:Not only is Wilton home to a new non-profit organization to promote the performing arts\, but the town will also play host to the group’s first annual Family Day Free Concert\, on Sunday\, Aug. 26\, at Merwin Meadows.\n\n\nEven more exciting? Headlining the concert is Bakithi Kumalo\, who plays bass for Paul Simon. Kumalo was the original bassist on Simon’s Graceland album\, and is taking a short break from Simon’s current tour to bring his all-star “Graceland Experience” band to Wilton.\n\n\nThe concert is a kick off for the Connecticut Friends of the Performing Arts\, a new organization based in Wilton that is committed to seeing the performing arts thrive in the community. The CTFOPA’s stated mission is to:\n\n\n\nPromote the outdoor performing arts as well as the development of a performing arts facility at Schenck’s Island.\nProvide funding for merit-based scholarships to be awarded annually to graduating high school students pursuing the performing arts in college\nProvide a forum for other non-profits in Wilton to create awareness\, drive membership\, participation and support for their activities\nPromote local merchants and stimulate business activity\nEnhance the image and reputation of Wilton as a fun place to visit and live as well as a recognized show stop between NYC and Boston for performing artists\n\nOther acts performing at the concert are family-friendly Jay and Ray at 3 p.m.\, followed at 4:15 p.m. by Idle Kyle\, and then Graceland Experience takes the stage at 5:30 p.m..\n\n\nFor more information\, visit the CT Friends of the Performing Arts website.\n\n \n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

On Saturday\, June 16\, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, Parks & Rec is hosting “Wilton Day at Merwin Meadows” and all residents are invited for free fun and festivities. With proof of Wilton residency\, attendees will be able to enjoy free food and activities for all ages. Among the fun events and features will be face painting\, music\, corn hole\, beach volleyball\, inflatables (duel-sport combo bounce house\, climbing area and slide)\, sack races\, fencing demonstrations\, playground and swings\, and of course swimming in the Merwin pond.
