DESCRIPTION:Wilton Children’s Theater presents its much-anticipated spring show: Disney’s Beauty and the Beast! Our cast of 55 students (between fourth and eighth grade) has been working hard combining dialogue\, music\, and amazing choreography. The show will run approximately two hours and is perfect for families and children. The actors have been expertly guided by director Maria McConville and producers Mandy Dugan and Tara Kovach. Ben McCormack has taken the helm as musical director and Wilber Escobar choreographed the intricate dance numbers that will dazzle audiences.\n\n\nPerformances are on Friday\, Mar. 18 at 7 p.m.\, Saturday\, Mar. 19 at 4 p.m.\, and Sunday\, Mar. 20 at 2 p.m. in the Middlebrook School auditorium. Tickets are available at the door or at on the Wilton Children’s Theater website.\n\n\nAdult tickets are $15.00\, and student tickets are $10.00.\n\n\nProducer Tara Kovach expressed\, “We are thrilled to announce the directorial debut of Maria McConville. The expertise she has shared with our actors is sure to delight our audiences. Our exciting musical numbers and dancing will have you wanting to ‘be our guest’ all weekend.”\n\n\nThis “tale as old as time” tells of Belle\, a young woman in a provincial town\, and the Beast\, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved\, the curse will end\, and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon\, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.\n\n \n\n\nMore information can be found at the Wilton Children’s Theater website.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

SUMMARY:Wilton Children’s Theater’s “Matilda the Musical”–POSTPONED
DESCRIPTION:THESE PERFORMANCES HAVE BEEN POSTPONED TO A TBD DATE. PURCHASED TICKETS WILL BE HONORED FOR THE NEW PERFORMANCES.\n\n\nWilton Children’s Theater’s production of Tony Award-winning Matilda the Musical is all about kids becoming superheroes. Based on the book by beloved children’s author Roald Dahl\, the smash hit is a wildly funny\, sometimes heartbreaking\, and always inspiring tale about the anarchy of childhood\, the power of imagination\, and a girl who won’t let being “little” stop her from putting an unjust world right.\n\n\nAll good superhero stories need a despicable villain\, and Matilda offers a few. Most of the adult characters in Matilda are either terrible\, cruel\, or paralyzed by low self-esteem. Matilda Wormwood (Daisy Beach) faces many injustices in her life\, like her dad insisting on calling her a boy and both parents (Illeas Paschalidis and Sydney Farago) thinking she is “stupid” for reading books. The young students of Crunchem Hall must deal with the child-hating\, bullying headmistress Miss Trunchbull (Thomas Fletcher)\, and in true Roald Dahl fashion the circumstances go from bad to worse. Matilda finds an ally in her teacher\, Miss Honey (Charlotte Markey)\, and\, though she is little\, she stands up and fights for what’s right! The situation becomes so dire that Matilda has no choice but to start a revolution. Matilda becomes a superhero\, and she inspires her classmates to stand up for themselves as they sing\, “Never again will she take away my freedom\, and we won’t forget the day we fought for the right to be a little bit naughty.” Matilda is an empowering musical with great music.\n\n\nWCT’s Matilda the Musical features a cast of 56 Wilton children and is produced by Jennifer Acerra-Markey and Renee Rafferty. The professional team includes Ginny Ruggieri (director)\, Benjamin Doyle (musical director)\, Judy Abbatiello (choreographer)\, Jim Durkin of In Phase Audio (sound)\, Craig Gehr of LX Lighting LLC (lighting)\, and Brooke Burling (set design/production).\n\n\nShow times are Friday\, March 13\, at 7 p.m.; Saturday\, March 14\, at 4 p.m.; and Sunday\, March 15 at 2 p.m.\, all at Middlebrook Auditorium.\n\n \n\n\nTickets are now available for purchase for $12 each online.\n\n\nWilton Children’s Theater (WCT) is an independent\, not-for-profit\, 501c3 organization providing the children of Wilton\, Connecticut with a quality theatrical experience second to none. Founded in 1976 with the support of the Wilton Playshop\, WCT develops acting skills\, stage presence\, and self-esteem in a nurturing\, enriching and creative environment. Since its inception\, WCT has grown to include four programs scheduled throughout the calendar year–two school-year shows and two summer shows.\n\n\nMatilda the Musical is based on the book by Roald Dahl\, music and lyrics by Tim Minchin\, and book by Dennis Kelly.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

SUMMARY:Holocaust Survivor Judith Altmann\, A Community Presentation
DESCRIPTION:Judith Altmann\, a Holocaust survivor and speaker for the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center\, returns to Wilton on Tuesday\, March 19 to share her story with the community.\n\n\nBorn in Jasina\, Czechoslovakia\, which was invaded by the Nazis in 1939\, Altmann was arrested in 1944 and transported to Auschwitz concentration camp with her niece\, where they were selected for work\, rather than sent to the gas chambers and death. From there she was moved to Essen and Gelsenkirchen Labour camps\, where she remained until March 1945\, and later survived the “death march” that ended in the Bergen Belsen concentration camp. Sick with typhus\, Altmann was barely alive when she was liberated by the British Army in 1945. She was given the opportunity to go to Sweden\, where she lived until emigrating to the United States in 1948.\n\n\nAltmann\, who has extensive experience speaking in schools\, is a member of the Holocaust & Human Rights Education Speakers Bureau\, and is vice president of the Holocaust Child Survivors of Connecticut.\n\n\nThis presentation follows Altmann’s visit to Middlebrook where she spoke to all of the students during two school-wide assemblies. Her message is one of hope and forgiveness\, encouraging her listeners to think for themselves and speak out against injustice.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

SUMMARY:FILM SCREENING: Beyond Measure: What Counts Can’t Be Counted
DESCRIPTION:Wilton Public Schools\, Wilton Youth Council and Wilton Youth Services invite Wilton residents to a special three-part series to explore the purpose of education\, the importance of childhood and our community’s opportunity to chart the best course for our children.\n\n\nThe series began in November with a screening of Race to Nowhere: The Dark Side of America’s Achievement Culture. It continues on Monday\, Feb. 4 with a screening of the follow-up movie\, Beyond Measure. We conclude with a Community Conversation on Monday\, Feb. 25.\n\n\nEvery day we hear stories about America’s troubled education system\, and that in order to fix what’s broken\, we need to narrow curricula\, standardize classrooms\, and find new ways to measure students and teachers. But what if these “fixes” are making our schools worse?
Beyond Measure offers a positive picture of what’s possible in American education when communities decide they are ready for change.\n\n\nJoin us for 80-minute film followed by a brief panel discussion. This is a free event\, open to adults and students from middle school up.\n\n\nThe documentary film Beyond Measure visits public schools across the country that put research and innovative models into practice. SUMMARY:Wilton Election 2018 State Legislative Candidate Forum
DESCRIPTION:This November is Election 2018\, and the local legislative campaigns will impact Wilton just as much as national ones. To help Wilton residents be as informed and prepared as possible to head into voting booths and cast their votes\, GOOD Morning Wilton is teaming up with the Wilton League of Women Voters (LWV) and the Wilton Library to co-sponsor a CT State Legislative Candidate Forum for the State Senate District 26\, and the State House Districts 125 and 143.\n\n\nThe forum will bring together on one stage the candidates in each of the races for those districts:  candidates for Senate District 26–Toni Boucher (R) and Will Haskell (D); candidates for House District 125–Tom O’Dea (R) andRoss Tartell (D); and candidates for House District 143–Gail Lavielle (R) and Stephanie Thomas (D). All six candidates have confirmed that they plan to attend and participate in the forum.\n\n\nThe forum is scheduled for Tuesday\, Oct. 16\, 2018\, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Middlebrook Middle School auditorium. The event was originally planned to take place at the Wilton Library\, but organizers changed the location when interest in attending outgrew capacity for the library’s Brubeck Room.\n\n\n\nFor anyone who cannot attend to watch in person\, GOOD Morning Wilton has arranged to livestream the forum online. It can be viewed live\, in real time via the link at www.livecloudtv.com/2018WiltonCTElectionForum. The event also will be recorded for re-broadcast on GOODMorningWilton.com and government access as available.\n\n\nThe candidates will engage in a modified\, town hall-style format. The format allows all candidates equal time to introduce themselves\, answer all questions posed by the moderator\, and highlight their goals for serving the community. Candidates will be held to strict time limits for each answer and opportunity to speak.\n\n\n\n\nAudience members at the event will be able to submit written questions; all questions will be screened for legibility\, duplication\, and may be combined or condensed.\n\n\nJean Rabinow\, a member of the Steering Committee of the League of Women Voters of the Bridgeport Area\, and Director/Outreach for the League of Women Voters of Connecticut\, will moderate the evening’s event.\n\n \n\n\nIn addition to the event co-sponsors–Wilton League of Women Voters\, Wilton Library and GOOD Morning Wilton–other partners in the event include the Norwalk League of Women Voters and student partners from theWilton High School Model Congress.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...
