SUMMARY:Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Academy Virtual Fundraising Auction
DESCRIPTION:Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic\, Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Academy‘s (OLFCA) Annual Fundraising Gala and Live Auction has moved online. The Wilton Catholic school will host an online fundraising auction from Dec. 11-18 (ending at midnight) featuring gifts to celebrate the winter season.\n\n\n“The Annual Gala and Live Auction represents our largest fundraising effort of the year. We are embracing the ‘new normal’ by bringing this event online\,” noted fundraising chair Clara Taveras. “All the items have been donated by parents\, alumni\, and members of our larger community. The Online Auction will provide a safe\, socially-distanced experience for people to shop or donate to support OLFCA.”\n\n\nOrganizers say that this year’s Auction features gifts to celebrate any winter holiday\, as well as selections specific to Christmas. The selections include such items as a Solo Stove kit\, sporting gear\, COVID-19 survival baskets\, and gift baskets featuring items from local merchants. The auction also provides options to support OLFCA or provide a special “thank you” to the OLFCA teachers.\n\n\nA preview of the items is available now online\, with bidding starting on Friday\, Dec. 11\, and running through midnight on Friday\, Dec. 18.\n\n\n“In these extraordinary times\, our teachers and staff have been exceptional. They have worked tirelessly to maintain a safe school environment in accordance with all applicable regulations and safety protocols to provide 5 day a week in-person education\,” Principal Stanley Steele said. “I receive calls daily seeking information on enrollment\, which just opened for the 2021-2022 school year. As a private school\, fundraisers such as this one are a key part of our budgeting process.”\n\n \n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

SUMMARY:The Wilton Playshop presents "Incident at Our Lady of Perpetual Help."
DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Playshop is excited to present Incident at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. This new comedy by Katie Forgette has been described by the playwright as “Brighton Beach Memoirs for the Catholic crowd.” The virtual reading\, directed by Mike Boland and produced by Sarah Lee Michaels\, will be livestreamed on Sunday\, Dec. 6\, at 3 p.m. The stellar cast comprised of many professional actors includes Dandy Barrett\, Mike Boland\, Sarah Lee Michaels\, Lisa Naso\, Heidi Weeks\, and Annie Winneg.\n\n\nTold through the memory of 19-year-old Linda O’Shea\, this hilarious play brings to life the story of the O’Sheas\, a cash-challenged\, Irish-Catholic family just trying to get through 1973. Linda is attempting to re-enact for the audience the most turbulent day of her life\, her own\, very personal Saturday Night Massacre\, but her family insists on interrupting to tell their side of the story.\n\n\nIt was a time of old school living. No Facebook\, no tweets\, no texting\, no Skype. A time when public ridicule in a close-knit\, hermetically sealed Catholic parish was the ultimate nightmare. And of course\, there’s Grandma\, ruling the household from her upstairs bedroom\, banging her baseball bat on the floor to get attention\, and service\, from the rest of the family. When Linda’s parents leave it to her to tell her younger sister about the birds and the bees\, the bawdy conversation is somehow overheard by the parish priest…and Father Lovett is not amused. He sets out to confront the family about “the corruption of their eldest daughter’s soul.”\n\n\nIn an effort to deliver live theater to their audience in this trying time\, the Wilton Playshop will be offering this livestream reading at no cost. Donations are accepted and appreciated for those able to do so.\n\n\nRecommended for ages 16 and up due to adult themes.\n\n \n\n\nPlease visit the Wilton Playshop website for more information.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

So we have worked very hard to find a new way to support these wonderful artisans who are hard-hit by a lack of fairs and shows at which to sell. You won’t have to spend a frustrating time searching online for well-made and interesting items. The American Artisan Show has pre-selected a terrific group for you\, just like our usual show.”\n\n\nThe event is an important fundraising effort for the Wilton Historical Society\, supporting the education and historic preservation mission. More than 20 highly-skilled artisans from across the country will be presenting their hand-crafted contemporary and traditional furnishings and wearables in an easy to use online shopping venue. Furniture\, art\, pottery\, fine leather goods\, Nantucket-style baskets\, candles\, Windsor chairs\, art\, tavern signs\, fine jewelry\, photography\, and much more–will be available for purchase. Every purchase benefits the Wilton Historical Society.\n\n \n\n\nPlus\, a fabulous Silent Auction is also accessible from the same site\, with a diverse selection\, including vintage evening purses\, art\, and other surprises. The Silent Auction will run at the same time as the American Artisan Show\, Nov. 5–Dec. 5.\n\n\nSelecting the talented artisans are volunteers and trustees Lynda Campbell\, Moira Craw\, and Catherine Romer\, plus Society co-director Kim Mellin\, who have invited an interesting assortment of makers\, both familiar to from earlier shows\, and some new to the event. The Artisan Show Committee is chaired by Judy Higby. Additional members are Meaghan Donovan\, Janet Foster\, Hal Higby\, Dottie Jankowski\, Dick Martin\, Allison Sanders and Katy Williams.\n\n\nMany community organizations and generous friends are supporting the American Artisan Show; lead sponsors include Fairfield County Bank and TD Bank\, plus Wilson Properties\, Wilton Kiwanis\, and Village Market.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

SUMMARY:Women’s Suffrage Centennial in Wilton: Citizens at Last: Hannah Ambler\, Grace Schenck\, and the Vote [Exhibition]
DESCRIPTION:2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment guaranteeing and protecting the right to vote for (some) women. Pre-COVID\, the State of Connecticut launched the CT Women’s Suffrage Commission and encouraged municipalities and non-profits to work together to celebrate this anniversary.  A number of Wilton organizations planned events and activities to celebrate this important milestone. Originally scheduled to run as an in-person exhibit from June-September\, this exhibition has transitioned online. \n\n\nOn November 2\, 1920\, Hannah Raymond Ambler proudly wrote “It is my first vote” in her daily journal. This triumphant and poignant phrase\, underlined for emphasis\, captures the voice of just one of the women in Wilton who campaigned for suffrage. Grace Knight Schenck\, a force to be reckoned with in the community\, was a leader who organized the first women’s suffrage meeting in town. The stories of these two women are at the heart of the Wilton Historical Society’s online exhibition “Citizens at Last: Hannah Ambler\, Grace Schenck and the Vote\,” which joins the national recognition of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment\, guaranteeing and protecting women’s constitutional right to vote.\n\n\nThe exhibition will explore objects\, images\, texts\, historic costumes\, vignettes\, and music to illustrate the activities and contributions of Wilton suffragists\, with a special focus on Hannah Ambler and Grace Schenck—placing the local story in state and national context.\n\n\nTheir last names may be well known in Wilton–Ambler Farm and Schenck’s Island are local landmarks–but their individual lives are not. This exhibition will shine a light on Hannah\, Grace\, and other Wilton women who became citizens at last in 1920.\n\n\nCitizens at Last:  Hannah Ambler\, Grace Schenck and the Vote will be available indefinitely on the Wilton Historical Society website.\n\n \n\n\nThis exhibition was made possible with the generous support of the Elizabeth Raymond Ambler Trust.\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...
