SUMMARY:Wilton Candlelight Concerts Presents Escher String Quartet
DESCRIPTION: \n\n\nWilton Candlelight Concerts will present the second concert in its 76th season\, with the Escher String Quartet in a program of works by Haydn\, Bartók\, and Ravel. The concert takes place on Sunday\, Feb. 4 at 4 p.m. at the Wilton Congregational Church.\n\n\nFormed in 2005 in New York\, the Escher String Quartet quickly caught the attention of key musical figures worldwide and has subsequently built on its success\, becoming known for its beautifully blended sound\, intelligent shaping and depth of musical perception. The Escher Quartet takes its name from the Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher\, inspired by Escher’s method of interplay between individual components working together to form a whole.\n\n\nThe Escher String Quartet has received acclaim for its profound musical insight and rare tonal beauty. A former BBC New Generation Artist and recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant\, the quartet has performed at the BBC Proms at Cadogan Hall and is a regular guest at Wigmore Hall. In its hometown of New York\, the ensemble serves as season artists of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The 2023-2024 season finds the Escher Quartet embarking upon a major project — performances of the complete cycle of quartets by Bela Bartok\, culminating in a single concert performance of all six at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.\n\n\nBeyond Bartok\, the Escher’s will return to many of the illustrious music centers and organizations in America\, such as the Kennedy Center\, Philadelphia Chamber Music Society\, Phoenix Chamber Music Society\, Duke University\, Coleman Chamber Music Association\, and Savannah Music Festival\, among others.\n\n \n\n\nTickets may be purchased on the Wilton Candlelight Music website\, or at the door: general admission is $30; students are free.\n\n\nCandlelight Concerts benefits the Wilton Library Association and happily accepts individual and corporate tax-deductible contributions.  This series is in its 76th season.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

SUMMARY:Wilton Candlelight Concerts presents Manhattan Chamber Players
DESCRIPTION:Wilton Candlelight Concerts presents the Manhattan Chamber Players on Sunday\, Dec. 4\, at 4 p.m. in the Wilton Congregational Church\, as part of its 75th Anniversary Season.\n\n\nThe musicians will perform Beethoven’s playful “Eyeglasses” duet for viola and cello\, as well as Brahms’ Clarinet Quintet and violin duets by Bartok. In addition\, the group will play String Trio by Gideon Klein. This trio was composed in 1944\, while Klein was imprisoned in the Terezin prison camp and ghetto\, and was completed shortly before his deportation to Auschwitz\, where he died.\n\n\nThe Manhattan Chamber Players are a chamber music collective of New York-based musicians who share the common aim of performing the greatest works in the chamber repertoire at the highest level. Formed in 2015 by Artistic Director and violist Luke Fleming\, MCP is comprised of an impressive roster of musicians who all come from the tradition of great music making at the Marlboro Music Festival\, Steans Institute at Ravinia\, Music@Menlo\, Yellow Barn Chamber Music Festival and Perlman Music Program\, and are former students of the Curtis Institute\, Juilliard School\, Colburn School\, and the New England Conservatory.\n\n\nMCP has been praised in Strings Magazine for “A fascinating program concept … It felt refreshingly like an auditory version of a vertical wine tasting.” The article applauded MCP for “an intensely wrought and burnished performance …Overall\, I wished I could put them on repeat.”\n\n\nAt the core of MCP’s inspiration is its members’ joy in playing this richly varied repertoire with longtime friends and colleagues\, with whom they have been performing since they were students.\n\n \n\n\nThe Dec. 4 concert is the second in Wilton Candlelight Concerts’ 2022/23 season. SUMMARY:Music on the Hill presents “Sounds of the Season” Holiday Concert
DESCRIPTION:Music on the Hill of Wilton presents its annual holiday concert\, “Sounds of the Season\,” Friday\, December 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Wilton Congregational Church\, 70 Ridgefield Road\, Wilton\, CT. The concert features the Jubilate Ringers\, an 18-member handbell ensemble\, and the 30-voice Festival Chorus\, made up of singers from throughout the region. The concert will include selections for Christmas and Hannukah\, as well as lullabies and winter songs. A choral highlight will be “Rejoice!” by Gwyneth Walker\, a festive setting of three familiar carols. The Jubilate Ringers\, together with Music on the Hill’s Community Children’s Chorus will perform “And All the Bells on Earth Shall Ring\,” a festive carol suite by Artistic Director Ellen Dickinson\, for handbells and children’s chorus. Flute\, double bass\, organ\, and carols sung by the audience round out the program. This concert is provided without ticket charge – donations may be made at the door ($25 suggested). This concert for all ages is a fun and festive way to start the holiday season!\n\n\nFounded in 2011\, Music on the Hill is an independent\, community music non-profit that has been lucky to call Wilton home for the past seven years.
