DESCRIPTION:On June 17\, 2015\, nine African Americans were murdered by a 21-year-old white supremacist during a prayer service at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in downtown Charleston\, South Carolina.\n\n\nThe families of the Emanuel Nine stood in court facing the killer … and offered words of forgiveness. Their demonstration of grace ushered the way for hope and healing across a city and the nation. This documentary powerfully weaves the history of race relations in Charleston\, the significance and impact of Mother Emanuel Church\, and the hope that somehow emerges in the aftermath.\n\n\nThis is a stunning movie that came out for only two days this summer.\n\n\nThe Wilton Congregational Church will host a screening of the documentary and a discussion after. You will learn 8-10 (or more) steps and experience the joy of dancing in a square by the end of the evening. SUMMARY:Wilton Candlelight Concerts presents Les Delices
DESCRIPTION:Les Delices\, an early music ensemble\, will present a program for oboe and string quartet (on period instruments) entitled Mozart in Paris.\n\n\nReadings from Mozart’s own letters animate his time in the City of Light.\n\n\nMozart had expected to take Paris by storm in the spring of 1778\, but things very much did not go to plan. Despite a successful premiere of his Paris Symphony (K297) at the Concert Spirituel on June 18 and a few other small commissions (concertos for flute\, some ballet music)\, letters flew back and forth between Paris and Salzburg that made it clear that Mozart was flailing. Mozart felt misunderstood and his bad attitude was ultimately his undoing: a patriotic German through and through\, Mozart openly antagonized the French and impugned French taste. He offended patrons left and right and refused to heed social etiquette; he even clung to excuses that Paris was too large\, too filthy\, and too expensive to get around in order to do the networking necessary to get ahead. Moreover\, he took regular opportunities to insult his colleagues\, who could otherwise have been championing Mozart’s music at salons and on concert series that they oversaw.\n\n\nIn short\, those six months in Paris represented a critical\, if difficult moment for the brilliant young composer. Les Délices’s program seeks to create a context for Mozart’s time in the City of Light by setting his beloved Quartet for oboe and strings (K.370) alongside composers whose music was all the rage: Quintets by Luigi Boccherini and Christoph Willibald Gluck are featured along with more unusual fare such as a string quartet by Giuseppe Cambini and a solo by the celebrated French cellist Jean-Louis Duport.\n\n\nLes Délices (pronounced Lay day-lease) is “an early music ensemble with an avant-garde appetite” (New York Times). The group’s debut CD was named one of the “Top Ten Early Music Discoveries of 2009” (NPR’s Harmonia)\, and their performances have been called “a beguiling experience” (Cleveland Plain Dealer)\, “astonishing” (ClevelandClassical.com)\, and “first class” (Early Music America Magazine). Founded in Cleveland in 2009\, Les Délices’s performances on period instruments allows them to explore a rich tapestry of tone colors. Les Délices has been featured on WCPN\, WCLV and WKSU in Ohio\, WQXR in New York\, NPR’s syndicated Harmonia and Sunday Baroque\, and had their debut CD featured on the Audio-guide for a special exhibit at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art (Watteau\, Music\, and Theater). SUMMARY:Third Annual Sip-and-Shop Benefit for Circle of Care
DESCRIPTION:The third annual Sip and Shop will take place on Thursday\, Nov. 29\, from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.. Local merchants and vendors will be selling an eclectic mix of holiday and gift items with a percentage of the proceeds benefitting Circle of Care\, a Wilton-based pediatric cancer charity. Complimentary food and beverages will be offered.\n\n\nThe event will be held at a new location\, Wilton Congregational Church\, Pilgrim Hall\, 70 Ridgefield Rd. in Wilton\, after last year’s event\, held at Wilton’s Old Town Hall\, overflowed with sip and shoppers\, so the sponsor and organizer\, Let’s Make Up owner Janet Montalbano\, realized this year’s event must be held at a larger space.\n\n\nLiz Salguero\, president and founder of Circle of Care\, is thrilled at the growing success of Sip and Shop. “Janet started by having a small event in a friend’s house. Invitation was by word of mouth and it raised over $4\,000. The second year it more than doubled\, raising over $11\,000 dollars for Circle of Care. Vendors and shoppers came from throughout Fairfield County and Westchester. We can’t thank her enough for her efforts on our behalf.” Janet’s goal for this year’s event is to raise over $20\,000.\n\n\nAnd to encourage even more shoppers to attend\, the 2018 SIP AND SHOP will be a “happening\,” not just an event. Delicious food bites will be provided by the popular Wilton-based organic gourmet store\, The Well\, and renowned Susan Kane Catering. Wilton-based Bubble and Brew will donate delectable desserts for the event. And gorgeous arrangements of flowers are courtesy of Tori Santos of Fleurish Flower Shop. While festively shopping\, customers can relax to the soulful sounds of singer/songwriter/pianist Gabrielle Cacciola\, and later in the afternoon and evening they can enjoy the fabulous vibrations of the Ridgefield-based band Code Red. Readings will be given by Fairfield County psychic Lize Marinelli. And\, for those who want lasting memories of the Sip and Shop experience\, expert photographer Justin Baiad will be available to take photographs in his private photo booth. To alleviate the holiday stress\, therapist Dana Michie will offer an Emotion Code Therapy experience. Emotion Code Therapy gives people the tools to release their pent up negative emotions\, which helps cure them of physical ailments\, increasing their sense of well-being.\n\n\nMany popular vendors are returning this year\, with exciting new ones joining (see list below). Raffle and auction items include gift certificates from local merchants\, eclectic holiday items\, and a one week trip to the exquisite Caribbean Island of Anguilla\, among others.\n\n \n\n\nCircle of Care is a Wilton-based organization that supports children with cancer and their families by providing direct practical\, emotional and financial support from diagnosis to pre and post treatment. Join us for a marvelous concert and fundraiser to benefit sound and visual modernizations and preservations at the Church. Childcare will be provided.\n\n\n“Bring the Music On!” will include a reception at 6 p.m. in Pilgrim Hall and a piano concert at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary\, given by our Director of Music Ministries\, Eugene Sirotkine\, internationally acclaimed pianist and conductor\, who will perform selections from the piano repertoire of Chopin\, Rachmaninov\, Liszt\, Glinka\, and a delightful “rag” by J. P. Johnson. In addition\, there will be a vocal performance by Rev. Dr. Anne Coffman.\n\n\nThe Church is a historical beacon in the community ~ an institution in the Town of Wilton. We want to be a good steward of our church\, not only the brick and mortar\, but also what happens inside. In today’s world\, the way you hear and see things is so important to your experience; we want everyone to be able to share the Message\, the Music\, the Fellowship\, and the Steeple Chimes.\n\n\nFirst\, we need to replace the current aging carillon so that the beautiful steeple chimes that we all love will live on! Next\, we are designing a modern integrated sound and visual system throughout the Church or wherever you are\, through live\, online streaming of all events. The new system will have leading-edge audio/video components\, completely integrated by wireless technology. Installed\, it will fit with the historical aesthetic and history of the Church. Finally\, there will be recording capability and Assistive Listening Devices.\n\n \n\n\n“Bring the Music On!” is just one of the funding plans for this project and is open to all in the community. Seating is limited.
