DESCRIPTION:Renowned silhouette artist Deborah O’Connor will create individual portraits cut entirely freehand from paper\, using scissors as her only tool\, at the Wilton Historical Society on Saturday\, Dec. 11 from 11 am to 2 pm. Subjects pose for silhouettes\, created in a matter of minutes\, which they can take home for the perfect holiday gift or a future cherished family heirloom.\n\n\nThis year there is an option for pre-ordering silhouettes\, which can be picked up during the Great Trains Holiday Show. Your pre-order must be placed no later than Saturday\, Dec 4. Ms. O’Connor also creates pet silhouettes\, which can be pre-ordered with a photo but are not available in a “live” sitting.\n\n\nThe first silhouette is $30\, and additional copies are $15. Silhouettes are mounted on white or ivory archival-quality cardstock. Mattes\, extra copies for gift-giving\, and frames will also be available. Silhouettes can also be made from photographs. SUMMARY:Wilton Historical Society: “Over the River and Through the Woods” with Tom Hooker Hanford
DESCRIPTION:“Over The River and Through the Woods” is a delectable peek into Thanksgiving and Christmas traditions of 19th-century America with songs and stories of the period. It will be presented at the Wilton Historical Society on Saturday\, Nov. 27 from 2 to 3 pm in the 1860 Abbott Barn. The program also features children’s songs enjoyed by youngsters of the 1800s and bound to delight kids of today.\n\n\nPresented by Thomas Hooker Hanford\, “Over the River and Through the Woods” begins with a rousing rendition of the title song which was composed by Lydia Maria Child\, a writer and advocate of the rights of Native Americans\, African Americans\, and women. Wearing a mid-19th century costume and accompanying his singing with parlor guitar\, fiddle and harmonica\, Mr. Hanford engages the audience with sing-along choruses and other participation.\n\n\nFor over 25 years Mr. Hanford has been featured at schools\, libraries\, festivals\, and historic sites and events. He has performed several times at the Wilton Historical Society.\n\n\nMasks are required and tickets cost $10 per person. No matter\, you will be amazed at what you don’t know about Wilton’s history!\n\n\nThe History is Here Wilton Scavenger Hunt will kick off on Saturday\, Oct. 16. Come to the Wilton Historical Society’s Great Wilton Pumpkin Fest between 2-4 p.m. to register\, pick up your Scavenger Hunt Kit\, and set out to follow the clues to a dozen places around town. This is a great opportunity for family fun\, to get outside\, to explore Wilton and maybe even to win a prize!\n\n\nAs you follow the clues\, the History Is Here Wilton Scavenger Hunt will take you north\, south\, east\, west and in between as you discover places with a surprising past. Learn about war heroes\, sports history\, suffrage\, a sensational murder\, and life in Wilton long ago. Follow the map (can your kids read a map?) to each location. Use your powers of observation to find and scan the QR code there — you will be rewarded with a short video with clues\, historical photos and a fascinating nugget of information about what happened at the very spot where you are standing. Put stickers on the map to mark the places you have found. Do it all in one day\, or over the course of a week. Return to the Wilton Historical Society on Saturday\, Oct. 23 from 3-4 p.m. for doughnuts and cider to celebrate all you have learned. There you can find out if you have won any of the amazing prizes that all registered participants have a chance at winning.\n\n\nAt the Great Wilton Pumpkin Fest\, on Saturday\, Oct. 16 from 2-4 p.m.\, there will be pumpkins and mums for purchase\, cider and doughnuts\, blacksmith demonstrations\, lawn games for kids\, pumpkin decorating and much more!\n\n \n\n\nThere is no cost for Wilton Historical Society members; the cost for non-member families is $25.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...
