DESCRIPTION:Join Wilton Go Green on Saturday\, Mar. 14\, for an informative and interactive afternoon discussing the energy issues facing Wilton and Connecticut\, and explore how we can work as a community to become more energy efficient. From Global warming and data centers to high electric bills and sustainable energy solutions\, energy has been in the news and top of mind for Wilton residents. How can we lower costs\, improve local resiliency\, and advocate for smarter state policies?  Come get the facts and share your voice.\n\n\nEvent Schedule:\n\n\n\n2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. | Expert Panel & Open Forum:Our expert panel will present the current energy landscape in Connecticut and Wilton\, followed by a moderated Q&A.\n3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. | Interactive Breakout Sessions:Join a small group to explore the topics that matter most to you.  Potential topics including:\n\nSolar Energy/Battery Storage\nEV Infrastructure\nThe New England Grid\nNuclear Energy in Connecticut\nEnergy efficient residences\nEnergy Efficiency for the Town of Wilton\n\n\n\nAbout our Panel:\n\n\nWe are joined by three experts from PACE\, People’s Action for Clean Energy. Working with towns and individuals to improve energy efficiency\, conservation\, and clean renewable energy across Connecticut\, PACE provides outreach and education on clean energy issues at public events\, legislative hearings and environmental forums.\n\n\nMark Scully has long been interested in clean energy\, energy efficiency and recycling. He has served as President of PACE since 2016 and recently introduced its Clean Energy Action Center. A native of Simsbury\, Mark is active in his local Sustainability Committee. He sits on the Advisory Committee of the CT Coalition for Climate Action and speaks regularly on solar and other clean energy issues.\n\n \n\n\nBernard Pelletier serves as a Vice President for PACE. He also volunteers at the state level recently joining Connecticut’s Energy Efficiency Board as the Residential Representative. Additionally\, he is a member of the Connecticut Energy Network’s Steering.\n\n\nA former middle school Tech Ed teacher\, Andy Bauer\, became a grassroots environmental activist in 2000 with the ‘Sooty Six’ campaign to clean up old and dirty power plants. That greatly expanded his understanding of the various impacts of non-renewable forms of power and the ability of regular citizens to do something about it. In 2005\, he founded the Portland\, CT\, Clean Energy Task Force\, which he continues to Chair. Andy became Coordinator of the CT Energy Network in 2024 and hosted a 2025 press conference at the legislature\, highlighting the many necessary aspects of CT’s Public Benefits Charge. When not out ‘saving the planet’\, he’s a farmhand\, a carpenter\, a hiker\, and a speaker to Leaders-in-Training at his beloved YMCA Camp Woodstock.\n\n\nRegistration is required for this event and will close on Mar. 14\, 2026\, at 12:00 p.m.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

SUMMARY:Hot & Cool Jazz: Chris Brubeck's Triple Play at The Wilton Library
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Wilton Library on Friday\, March 13 at 7 p.m. for their next Hot & Cool Jazz concert featuring Triple Play\, a trio of three outstanding and versatile musicians: Peter Madcat Ruth (on harmonica\, jaw harp\, percussion  & vocals)\, Joel Brown (folk and classical acoustic guitar & vocals)\, and Chris Brubeck (electric bass\, bass trombone\, piano & vocals). Collectively\, they bring a rare level of joy\, virtuosity\, and American spirit to the folk\, blues\, jazz\, and classical music they perform.\n\n\nHot & Cool Jazz is brought to you by the generosity of the Estate of James (Tom) and Alice Brown. Pre-registrants should arrive by 6:50 p.m. to be guaranteed seating; wait-listed\, walk-ins\, and pre-registrants will be admitted after 6:50 p.m. if space is available. There will be a reception following the concert with CDs available for sale and signing.\n\n\nTriple Play’s musical roots go way back (50+ years!) in each member’s history. Chris and Madcat have toured and recorded together in different settings since 1969\, first as young rock musicians in the group New Heavenly Blue (with albums on RCA and Atlantic Records)\, Sky King (on Columbia)\, and then as jazz musicians touring the world with Dave Brubeck. Paul deBarros\, writer for The Seattle Times and Downbeat\, commented after seeing a performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival: “Triple Play is what jazz always was and always should be about: good-time rhythm\, unbridled joy and the sweet release but bittersweet aftertaste of the blues.”\n\n\nDave Brubeck’s last recorded performance was captured on the exciting Triple Play Live at Arthur Zankel Music Center. The crowd is wildly enthusiastic on this well-reviewed CD\, which also featured Joel Brown’s father\, Frank Brown\, on clarinet. You can often hear this innovative version of “Take Five” featuring Madcat’s polyrhythmic jaw harp and burning solos by Dave\, Joel and Chris on Sirius XM Jazz. Triple Play’s music has international reach\, as they were a hit playing with The Singapore Chinese Orchestra and returned for a second performance which was recorded and released on Blue Forest Records. “It all fits together because of the talent and taste of the musicians\, who groove no matter what they’re doing and it’s tremendous fun\, to boot\,” said All About Jazz.\n\n\nRegistration is Required\n\n \n\n\nCapacity has been reached. Additional registrants will be placed on the waitlist.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

SUMMARY:Wilton Library Presents Hot & Cool Jazz: The Tierney Sutton/Tamir Hendelman Duo
DESCRIPTION:Please join The Wilton Library for a special Valentine’s Day jazz concert with the Tierney Sutton/Tamir Hendelman Duo. Whether it’s a classic coda after a nice\, long lunch or a perfect prelude to a romantic dinner\, Tierney’s engaging stage presence and fabulous vocals over Tamir’s dynamic and inventive piano will enchant as well as entertain us. Their special repertoire for this concert will guarantee a memorable afternoon of jazz.\n\n\nFrom a concert review: “Watching Hendelman’s marvelous hands fly across the keyboard\, one is reminded of the likes of Oscar Peterson\, Chick Corea\, and Keith Jarrett.” And The New York Times called Tierney Sutton “a serious jazz artist who takes the enterprise to a whole other level.”\n\n\nNine-time Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Tierney Sutton has received a “Best Jazz Vocal Album” Grammy nod for every project she has released in the last decade. Known for her impeccable voice and imaginative treatments of The Great American Songbook\, Sutton is heralded for her abilities as both a jazz storyteller and her ability to use her voice as an instrument. In May 2016 Tierney was approached by legendary Director Clint Eastwood to work on his box-office smash-hit Sully. The score was created by Tierney Sutton Band pianist\, Christian Jacob\, The Tierney Sutton Band\, and Clint Eastwood. The end-title song “Flying Home” features music by Eastwood and lyrics by Tierney Sutton and JB Eckl and was performed by Tierney Sutton and The Tierney Sutton Band.\n\n\nBorn in Tel Aviv\, pianist\, composer and arranger Tamir Hendelman has resided in Southern California for many years\, but it’s fair to say the world is his home. A long-time member of the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra\, he has recorded with Barbra Streisand and Natalie Cole\, performed with Benny Golson and Terell Stafford and has been a guest artist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Winston-Salem Symphony. Tamir has brought his trio to the Brubeck Room three times since 2012\, most recently in 2023.\n\n\nHot & Cool Jazz is brought to you by the generosity of the Estate of James (Tom) and Alice Brown. Special thanks to Chris & Tish Brubeck.\n\n \n\n\nAdvance registration strongly recommended. Register online or call 203-762-6334. Reception following the concert. Suggested donation: $10: online donations can be made here. With our new registration system\, you can sign up two attendees at the same time but they still need to be entered individually; please click on “Add Another” to register the second name. Pre-registrants should arrive by 3:50pm to be guaranteed seating; registered\, wait-listed\, and walk-ins will be admitted after 3:50pm if space is available. Wilton Library\, 137 Old Ridgefield Road\, Wilton\, CT www.wiltonlibrary.org\n\n\nPlease note registration is closed because the event is full. SUMMARY:Jazz Post-1959: Diverging Paths
DESCRIPTION:Join Wilton Library for the final program of their new four-part series with Dr. Gil Harel on the seminal jazz albums of 1959. The series will run as follows:\n\n\n3/20/24: Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue\n4/10/24: Dave Brubeck’s Time Out\n5/22/24: John Coltrane’s Giant Steps\n6/18/24: Jazz Post-1959 Diverging Paths\n\n\nJazz historians and scholars often point to 1959 as a watershed year. Indeed\, the volume and breadth of the music created in that single year has perhaps few analogues in jazz — or any other genre\, for that matter. During this program\, Professor Harel will therefore consider the critical and artistic impact of the seminal albums of 1959. In doing so\, he also discusses the trajectories pursued by the artists who made the year so special. Subsequently\, three distinct and markedly divergent directions can be analyzed. This discussion will consider them through the important works of three celebrated musicians: John Coltrane\, Miles Davis\, and Dave Brubeck.\n\n\nHarel (PhD\, Brandeis University) is a musicologist and music theorist whose interests include styles ranging from the western classical repertoire to jazz. Currently\, he is Full Professor of Music at CT State Naugatuck Valley\, where he received the AFT “Merit Award for Exemplary Service to the College” for 6 consecutive years. At NVCC\, Dr. Harel additionally conducts the college chorale\, a cappella ensemble\, teaches music history and theory\, and serves as musical director of theater productions.\n\n\nRegister online or call 203.762.6334.\n\n \n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...
