SUMMARY:Jazz Post-1959: Diverging Paths
DESCRIPTION:Join Wilton Library for the final program of their new four-part series with Dr. Gil Harel on the seminal jazz albums of 1959. The series will run as follows:\n\n\n3/20/24: Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue\n4/10/24: Dave Brubeck’s Time Out\n5/22/24: John Coltrane’s Giant Steps\n6/18/24: Jazz Post-1959 Diverging Paths\n\n\nJazz historians and scholars often point to 1959 as a watershed year. Indeed\, the volume and breadth of the music created in that single year has perhaps few analogues in jazz — or any other genre\, for that matter. During this program\, Professor Harel will therefore consider the critical and artistic impact of the seminal albums of 1959. In doing so\, he also discusses the trajectories pursued by the artists who made the year so special. Subsequently\, three distinct and markedly divergent directions can be analyzed. This discussion will consider them through the important works of three celebrated musicians: John Coltrane\, Miles Davis\, and Dave Brubeck.\n\n\nHarel (PhD\, Brandeis University) is a musicologist and music theorist whose interests include styles ranging from the western classical repertoire to jazz. Currently\, he is Full Professor of Music at CT State Naugatuck Valley\, where he received the AFT “Merit Award for Exemplary Service to the College” for 6 consecutive years. At NVCC\, Dr. Harel additionally conducts the college chorale\, a cappella ensemble\, teaches music history and theory\, and serves as musical director of theater productions.\n\n\nRegister online or call 203.762.6334.\n\n \n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

SUMMARY:The Music of the Dave Brubeck Octet: Restored and Reimagined
DESCRIPTION:An homage to The David Brubeck Octet\, the Wilton Library hosts a historic jazz concert bringing Dave Brubeck’s most famous arrangements back to life for the first time since the 1950s — led by saxophonist Jon De Lucia and his all-star jazz octet featuring grammy-winning musicians.\n\n\nThe Brubeck Octet\, formed in the 1940s\, is where Brubeck and his fellow composition students at Mills College explored musical concepts like polytonality and odd meters for the first time.\n\n\nFind more information here.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

SUMMARY:State of the Town Talk
DESCRIPTION:The Town of Wilton\, The Wilton Library Association\, and the Wilton Chamber of Commerce invite the community to the first “State of the Town Talk” held Wednesday May 29\, 5:30 p.m. in the Brubeck Room at the Wilton Library. First Selectman Toni Boucher and Wilton Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Kevin Smith will guest speak.\n\n\nThis forum is open to all community members. It especially offers an opportunity to come together\, share insights\, and collaboratively address the Town’s Annual Budget and Town Meeting’s recent outcomes. The event also serves as a platform to discuss the progress and future direction of ongoing projects shaping the fabric of the community.\n\n\nThe goal of this meeting is to provide an open dialogue\, allowing community members to voice their ideas\, concerns\, and suggestions. This interactive approach further allows for the consideration of a diverse range of perspectives in the decision-making process. It will indeed harness the collective intelligence\, creativity\, and spirit of the community to foster an environment of growth and well-being for all its members.\n\n\nOrganizers hope to see you there\, ready to engage\, listen\, and contribute to the dialogue that impacts the town. This is an importantly unique opportunity to connect with neighbors\, meet town officials\, and play an active role in the decision-making process that affects everyone.\n\n\nSpace is limited and registration is required.
