SUMMARY:The Softer Side of Celtic
DESCRIPTION:Join Wilton Library for a special music performance. Growing up in a home where the older Scottish folk songs were the everyday sounds\, Jeff Snow developed a love for Celtic music. Snow’s music has been described as “quiet and relaxing Celtic.” Much of it is but every once in a while he breaks out and the foot stomping begins. Sharing stories\, songs and tunes enriched by the histories of Scotland\, Ireland and England\, his performances educate as well as entertain. You will see clapping\, singing\, laughing\, lots of smiles and perhaps a few tears. Suitable for all ages.\n\n\nSnow is a talented multi-instrumentalist who plays the music and tells the stories behind the songs. He plays six- and 12-string guitar\, autoharp\, Celtic Bouzouki and Bodhran. He also plays the drums and a variety of other percussion instruments.\n\n\nRegistration is required. To register and see more details\, visit Wilton Library online. For more information\, email Andrea Sato.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

SUMMARY:The Cultural and Cinematic Legacy of “The Godfather”
DESCRIPTION:Please join Wilton Library for an entertaining look at the legacy of The Godfather.\n\n\nThe Godfather films continue to fascinate audiences. They have become some of the most enduring in the industry and have played a major role in influencing audience perceptions and misperceptions of criminal activities and family life. Greg Blank will examine themes of family\, family values\, the criminal empire of the Corleone family as a metaphor for American capitalism and values\, and the immigrant experience\, and the film’s legacy of phrases that endure in the contemporary popular lexicon (“I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse”; “keep your friends close\, but your enemies closer”\, etc.). It will also explore the folklore\, legend\, and background stories on the actual making of the film.\n\n\nA Long Island-based filmmaker\, film historian\, and lecturer\, Blank has over 15 years of experience as a producer\, director\, cinematographer\, and editor.\n\n\nRegistration is required. To register and see more details\, visit the Wilton Library website. For more information\, email Andrea Sato.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

SUMMARY:CT's Own: Dream Collider: An Electroacoustic Viola Experience
DESCRIPTION:Please join Wilton Library for an amazing performance by Wilton’s own Nick Revel\, a violist\, improviser\, composer\, and educator who grew up K-12 in Wilton.\n\n\nFollowing his debut album “Letters to My Future Self\,” Nick Revel evolves the art of layering and sound design in his new genre-phasing collection of works\, “Dream Collider\,” on Sapphire Records. This dreamy collision of Revel’s musical influences leans heavily on both pop-inspired electronic and ambient-style film music\, pulling the viola into an updated sound world that is relevant and relatable to modern audiences. Revel says of “Dream Collider\,” recorded and mixed in his home studio\, “Born of my own emotional darkness and a yearning for joy during the height of the pandemic\, this album provides a sonic fantasy of new worlds\, a reprieve from suffering\, and visions of realities beyond what is currently possible on Earth.”\n\n\nWhen Nick Revel is not touring as founding violist of the GRAMMY™ Nominated PUBLIQuartet\, he is composing\, producing\, and performing original solo pieces\, audio engineering ensembles of various shapes and sizes\, and teaching students of all ages. His recent compositions have won the Red Jasper Award Shortlist\, the Catalyst Quartet’s CQ Minute competition\, fvebyfve’s 2020 call for original scores\, and placement on top podcasts like Doug Fearn’s My Take on Music Recording. These works will appear on his forthcoming album “Dream Collider\,” available on all major platforms. He has served as artistic and executive director of the Norwalk Youth Chamber Ensembles\, co-creator of the New York String Studio\, and on the board of the Seabury Academy of Music and the Arts in Norwalk\, CT.\n\n\nNo charge. Registration strongly suggested. Pre-registrants should arrive by 3:50 to be guaranteed seating; wait-listed and walk-in registrants will be admitted after 3:50 if space is available. SUMMARY:Wilton Go Green Green Speaker Series: Dr. Katharine Owens
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Katharine Owens will share how she uses the arts to communicate about the pervasive problem of plastic pollution with her talk “Entangled and Ingested: Combating Plastic Pollution Through Art”. As researcher and artist\, Dr. Owens has spent the last year and a half creating a series of forty-six life-sized portraits of animals harmed by marine debris. She creates most of the pieces herself by hand sewing film plastic onto canvas\, but the largest pieces (including three life-sized whales) are being co-created with the public. Presentation is from 2:00pm – 3:00pm.\n\n\nAfter the presentation you can choose to stay and put your sewing skills tow work and help stitch one of Dr. Owen’s pieces. 3:00pm – 4:00pm\n\n\nWilton Library will be handling registration through their events page. Check in October.\n\n\n\n\n	See more related GMW stories...

SUMMARY:Author Talk: Ted Aldrich — The Partnership
DESCRIPTION:“A joint biography of Stimson and Marshall\, two pillars of the American Century\, is a valuable addition to history.”\n— Walter Isaacson\, bestselling author of Einstein\, Steve Jobs\, and The Code Breaker\n\n\nWestport author Ted Aldrich will visit Wilton Library to talk about his book\, The Partnership: George Marshall\, Henry Stimson\, and the Extraordinary Collaboration That Won World War II. The book shines a spotlight on two giants\, telling the fascinating stories of each man\, the dramatic story of their collaboration\, and the epic story of the United States in World War II.\n\n\nGen. George Marshall and Henry Stimson were two very different men who combined with a dazzling synergy to lead the American military effort in World War II\, in roles that blended politics\, diplomacy\, and bureaucracy in addition to warfighting. They transformed an outdated\, poorly equipped army into a modern fighting force of millions of men capable of fighting around the globe. They — and Marshall in particular — identified the soldiers\, from Patton and Eisenhower to Bradley and McNair\, best suited for high command. They helped develop worldwide strategy and logistics for battles like D-Day and the Bulge. They collaborated with Allies like Winston Churchill. They worked well with their cagey commander-in-chief. They planned for the postwar world. They made decisions\, from the atomic bombs to the division of Europe\, that would echo for decades. There were mistakes and disagreements\, but the partnership of Marshall and Stimson was\, all in all\, a bravura performance\, a master class in leadership and teamwork.\n\n\nEdward “Ted” Aldrich is an international banker and commodity specialist. He and his wife\, Susie\, have three children and live in Westport.\n\n\nelmstreetbooks.com will be selling copies after the talk. A portion of the proceeds goes to Wilton Library.\n\n \n\n\nThe media sponsor of our author talks is GOOD Morning Wilton.\n\n\nRegistration is required.
