DESCRIPTION:Please join Temple B’nai Chaim and invited guests to a special town hall meeting\, “Confronting Acts of Hate in Our Community\,” on Sunday\, Feb. 4\, at 2 p.m.\n\n\nIn light of the unprecedented rise in the number of hate-inspired incidents within our local communities\, Temple B’nai Chaim’s Social Action Group to Confront Antisemitism and Hate ─ in partnership with the Anti-Defamation League’s Kulanu Program\, the Riverbrook YMCA\, and the Wilton Library ─ will offer a two-hour community strengthening program led by faith and local community leaders.\n\n\nPanelists representing various faiths and marginalized groups ─ including Cantor Harriet Dunkerley (Temple B’nai Chaim)\, Father Reggie Norman (Our Lady of Fatima)\, Sohair Omar (Muslim community representative)\, Sarvesh Damle (Hindu community representative)\, and Rachel Simon\, ED (LGBT+ community\, Norwalk Triangle Center) ─ will share their communities’ sensitivities and experiences with hate incidents. U.S. Rep. Jim Himes will also speak.\n\n\nThe program sponsors hope that this community program will facilitate the formation of a supportive network that will meet periodically to follow up on this forum’s discussions and implement ways to prevent hate speech and acts of hate from invading our community. DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, March 18\, from 8-11 a.m.\, the Riverbrook Regional/Wilton Family Y is hosting a Pedal to End Cancer fundraising event to raise money for the American Cancer Society (ACS). This special event is open to members and non-members who would like to raise money for a good cause. Riverbrook Y instructors will motivate participants through one\, two\, or three hours of cycling. The money raised goes toward ACS funding for groundbreaking cancer research\, critical patient care services\, education\, and prevention initiatives.\n\n \n\nThe Riverbrook Regional YMCA holds indoor cycling classes for all levels seven days a week and has a variety of other group exercise classes geared towards members of all ages and abilities. They are also proud to offer Livestrong\, a 12-week exercise program for adult cancer survivors in all stages of recovery.\n\n \n\nIn honor of Colorectal Cancer Awareness month in March\, Wilton Y Director of Healthy Living Rhoda Kasparek wanted to host this event to raise awareness about colorectal cancer and promote screening. This generosity supports the Riverbrook Regional YMCA’s mission to be open and accessible to all — so that everyone in the communities of Wilton\, Norwalk\, and Redding has an opportunity to participate in Y membership\, programs\, services\, and social activities\, regardless of financial situation or ability. Initiatives supported through these dollars include the Y’s Financial Assistance Program; SWIMACCESS — free life-saving swim lessons for youth who do not know how to swim; and Summer Camp Assistance for Camp Gordyland in Wilton\, Camp Sunrise & Race4Chase Youth Triathlon Camps in Norwalk.\n\n\nNearly 225 folks came to R@TY last year and heard the sounds of TERRAPIN echo throughout the cool September evening. SUMMARY:Wilton YMCA Free Parent Workshop:  Tools for Working with Anxiety
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Wilton Family YMCA\, this free parent workshop\, “Tools for Working with Anxiety\,” will introduce practical tools to interrupt the anxiety loop by purposefully cueing an activation of our parasympathetic nervous system. Using mindful awareness\, breath\, and body we will explore ways to shift our nervous systems from a state of “fight\, flight\, or freeze” to a place of “rest and digest.”\n\n\nThe workshop is presented by Jennifer Barrett\, who has been working with children for over two decades. She is the founder of We Grow Yoga and provides yoga and mindful awareness training to children of all ages as well as to the teachers and parents who guide them. She holds degrees in elementary and special needs education from Boston College. She has a 20 year dedicated yoga practice\, and is an active and registered member of Yoga Alliance. She is certified both through ChildLight Yoga and holds a 200 hour teacher certification through Breathe For Change with the lens of bringing yoga and mindful awareness practices to school communities.
