Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County is seeking mature, compassionate adults from Wilton to serve as Samaritan Volunteers. Samaritan volunteers help homebound patients with transportation needs such as driving to doctors’ appointments, running errands or picking up groceries and medical supplies. Samaritan volunteers use their own vehicles to help support patients and their family members/caregivers and provide them with greater independence and improved quality-of life.

Those who are interested may register to participate in a one-session, 3-hour training course, scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 10 a.m.-1 p.m..

The training session will be held at the offices of Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County in Suite 114 at the Health and Wellness Center at I-Park, 761 Main Ave./Rte. 7 near the intersection of Kent Rd. on the Norwalk /Wilton town line.

In the training course, volunteers will learn about Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County and its policies, safety issues, different types of diseases and how best to accommodate patients within the scope of the program. Volunteers are provided with ongoing support and supervision by the volunteer coordinator.

“This program appeals to individuals who feel a genuine desire to help their neighbors,” says Laurie Petrasanta, volunteer coordinator for Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County. “These volunteers are special people who recognize that there is a tremendous need among those in the community who are not able to care for themselves at home without assistance. Samaritan volunteers give of their time to help our patients remain in their own homes safely so that they can enjoy a better quality of life.”

For more information about the Samaritan Volunteer Program, or to register for the volunteer training course, contact Petrasanta at 203.834.6341, ext. 316.
