Wilton 6th Grade Blue Wins Sixth Straight Game Against New Canaan Black, 21-0
Wilton’s 6th grade team continued its unbeaten streak on Saturday night at Fujitani Field against a tough New Canaan Black team. It was a defensive struggle from the start, with the Warriors and Rams trading punts for the first four drives of the game. Strong tackling by Maja Driscoll, Ryan Luchetta, Cael Dexter, Will Cristini, Cole Galante, Jack Schwartz, Ray Ferranti, Ryan Meenan, Liam Snyder, Luke Ginsburg, Henry Soojian, and Luke Perna kept the Rams on their heels, and out of the end zone. The Warriors missed Cole Siegel’s strength in the middle, but he was there to cheer on his teammates’ great defense.
The offense finally got moving with a 10-play drive that featured excellent blocking from Driscoll, Galante, Jack Huntley, Luchetta, Liam McKiernan, Meenan, Jack Santosky, Soojian, Jaxon Thomas, and CJ Young that opened up holes for Dexter, Ferranti, Charlie Keller, Ryan Stocker and Jack Schwartz. Schwartz carried it in from the 3-yard line for the game’s first touchdown. The special teams unit recovered from a fumbled snap and Snyder ran in the extra point giving the Warriors a 7-0 lead.
On the next New Canaan possession, Dexter intercepted the New Canaan quarterback giving the ball back to the Warriors. It took just three pass plays for the Warriors to get back to the end zone with Snyder completing passes to Dexter and Schwartz before connecting with Ferranti for the touchdown. Wilton’s final touchdown came on Dexter’s second interception of the night, which he returned 40-yards for a touchdown. The pick-6 earned the Warriors the victory and a pizza party from the coaches. Ginsburg connected on the live extra point giving Wilton the win, 21-0.
5th Grade Warriors Add Win Over Westport, 24-8
Saturday brought another win for the 5th Grade Warriors against a tough Westport team with a final score of 24-8.
The lack of action in the first quarter belied the amazing play yet to come. The second quarter began with great line play by Max Totten, Cutis Jackson, and Marco Chila stifling the Wreckers. Trevien Goldman caught a 30-yard pass, which kicked the Warriors into high gear. The next play saw Charlie Calabrese run the ball for 10 yards for the Warrior’s first touchdown, and the extra two points kicked by Mason Behar brought the score to 8-0. Not to be intimidated, the Wreckers quickly answered that touchdown with one of their own, making Westport the only team this season to even score against our 5th graders.
The next Wilton possession left the score even at 8-8, putting the Wreckers in the driver’s seat. Any traction they began to gain was shut down by tremendous defensive play by Hunter Lishnoff, Emma Van Heyst, Josh Meltzer and Evan Christianson. The ball advanced up the field with strong runs by Craig O’Neill and Kieran Wiseman and a photo-worthy catch on the ground by Charlie Roy. A perfect pass to double-covered Theo Satrazemis in the end-zone gave the Warriors their second touchdown.
The third quarter saw more great defensive play by Blake Ongley, Will Byrnes, Cayden Stevens, and Grant Santosky shutting down the Wreckers. Jake Padilla began the Warriors’ last assault with a 15-yard run that continued their march down the field. The final touchdown was made possible by great line play led by center Ray Slough for a third and final Warrior touchdown. Patch Angerame ran the ball into the end zone for the final play of the game, which ended in another victory with a 24-8 win.
Despite Effort, 4th Grade Warriors Overpowered by Ridgefield, 6-22
On a perfect fall day for football this past Saturday, the 4th Grade Warriors traveled to Ridgefield to take on the Tigers. The Tigers promptly scored a touchdown on their first possession. The Warriors’ offense answered with strong runs from Nick Skillin, Colin Faherty, and Dylan Flanagan, with Charlie Heffernan, under center, but the drive stalled. The Warrior defense took the field, with solid efforts from Denny Dustin, Brady Corry, Henry Snow, Jaxon Lin, Cody Korpan,Faherty, and Flanagan, and stopped the Tigers on a big 4th down play with a punishing tackle by Skillin. Next the Warriors employed their “Beast Package,” featuring August Furman at center along with Mark Whitman, Finn Snyder, Jack Condon, Cole Herbst, Trey Rivera, Wyatt Kreter, and Wyatt Hoffstatter.
Despite solid blocking forming a powerful wedge and some angry runs from Liam Pierson and Corry, the drive finally stalled deep in Tiger territory. The 2nd quarter began with the Warrior defense led by strong tackles from Corry, Skillin, and Dustin, but the Tigers still managed to score, making it a 0-14 game. The game fell into a stalemate until the final minute of the half when the Warriors scored a touchdown off a fantastic Faherty run; the half ended with a score of 6-14.
The second half began with the Beast Package, and despite great runs from Pierson, the drive stalled. On the next Tiger possession Michael Duarte made an incredible tackle on a long pass saving a touchdown. Unfortunately for the Warriors, the Tigers ultimately scored on a run, making the score 6-22 after the kick. After strong runs by Faherty, Skillin, and Dustin, the Warrior defense took the field again, trying to stop the bleeding. With devastating tackles from Emmett Sommer and twists from Michael Lenz and Hoffstatter, the Tigers did not score again. Despite a 4th quarter pass from Rivera to Dustin, time ran out for the Warriors.
Nonetheless, the Warriors left the field determined to come out fierce against Westport this Saturday at home!

Wilton 2010 Girls White U9 Soccer Wins Second Place at Columbus Day Connecticut Rush Challenge Tournament
On Saturday, the Wilton 2010 Girls White U9 soccer team went 3-0 in the Championship Flight at the CT Rush Tournament. In the 1st game, Trumbull jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead but that was the last time Wilton would trail the rest of the tournament. Everything clicked in the second half and Savannah Quick’s two goals and great goalie play by Avery Galligan gave Wilton a 2-1 victory. In Game 2, Wilton dominated Revolution United as goals were scored by Sophie Duval (2), Ellie Satrazemis and Quick. Allison Massaua and Lilly Flatt limited shots on goal with multiple great defensive plays. Mia Bayonne and Ava Lafiosca secured the 4-1 victory with steady goalkeeping. In game three, Wilton beat Westport 2010 2-0. Wilton could have had more goals as Taylor Setterlund, Hannah Hall, Nora McGrath and Samantha VonLoeser had multiple close shots on goal.
Wilton GU13 Blue wins First Place at Bethel Tourney
The Wilton Girls U13 Blue team took first place at the Bethel Columbus Day Soccer Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 6, outscoring their opponents with a combined score of 15 to 0.

Wilton U9 Girls Gold End on High Note in Ridgefield
It was a snake-themed weekend as the U9 Girls Gold Team played against the Ridgefield Cobras, Vipers and Boas in three back-to-back games at the SCOR Columbus Day Tournament. With only eight players available to field a seven-player field, the availability of subs was limited.
Claire Macken, Caitlin Stocker, Kara Zane and Tessa Ferranti each defended the goal fiercely, keeping Ridgefield at bay for the first two games despite their many shots at the goal, but wet conditions and early-morning game times worked against the players as they struggled to find their groove.
A pep talk by Coach (and WHS alum) Spencer Overbeeke before their final game re-energized the players as they put on their game faces. Ferranti set the mood by scoring the first goal of the game, followed shortly after by a second goal by Brianna Shiue. Emily Ma, Simran Bhutani and Caroline Condon kept Ridgefield on their toes by keeping the ball on the Ridgefield half of the field. Goalie Zane earned high-fives from her teammates as she dove to make an amazing save, and goalie Macken caught some air as she caught a ball for another amazing save. The U9 Girls Gold ended the tournament on a high note, bringing home a 2:1 win for their final game.
2010 Boys Gold Embody Team Camaraderie Despite Losses at SCOR Tournament
Although the 2010/U9 Boys Gold team played hard this weekend at the SCOR Columbus Day Tournament in Ridgefield, they were unable to bring home a win against some of the strongest teams in the league.
Kevin Garcia and Alex Shiue worked hard to defend the goal in Game 1 against the Ridgefield U9 Vipers while team members Andrew DeMasi, Topher Jackson and Rohan Saini hustled to keep the ball away from the Wilton goal. Game 2 had John Mannix and Ben Cannavino executing some amazing saves in the game against Darien U9 Orange. In Game 3, Sean Unruh and Evan Ash rotated into goal to help keep Darien U9 White working hard to score the few goals they managed to sneak in.
The real trophy goes to Coach Xavier Cardona who coached six back-to-back games starting at 8 a.m., alternating between the Wilton U9 White team and the Wilton U9 Gold team. Despite their losses, the players held their heads high and ended the day showing their camaraderie by celebrating a teammate’s birthday with a loud rendition of “Happy Birthday.”
