The Wilton Conservation Commission is inviting all citizens to participate in the 2018 Town-wide Clean Up Day this Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m..

Every spring enthusiastic residents spread out around Wilton to pick up litter along our roads and the banks of the Norwalk River. Last year, volunteers filled two dumpsters with over 5,000 pounds of litter collected in just three hours time. The hardworking volunteers make a big impact on our town and this year everyone’s help is needed.

Individuals and organizations able to join in and help clean up the litter in our town are asked to meet at the Town Green on April 28 and choose from a list of sites that are in serious need of attention. Wilton’s largest watercourse, the Norwalk River, is always in need of help as litter accumulates along its river banks. Work gloves, garbage bags and dumpsters will be available at the gazebo.

This year’s event has several generous donors including Pinocchio’s Pizza, which will supply all volunteers with a voucher for a free slice of cheese pizza. Wilton Hardware and Wilton Kiwanis have both donated to the second annual Town-wide Clean Up Day drawing. Prizes include gift certificates to local businesses. To be eligible to enter the drawing volunteers must collect a full garbage bag of litter and bring it the town green for disposal. The prize drawing will be held promptly at noon on April 28 and entrants must be present to win.

Anyone interested in volunteering or organizing a group of volunteers can call the Conservation Commission Office at 203.563.0180 or just stop by the Town Green at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 28. Clean-up will proceed rain or shine.
