With summer winding down, and flu season fast approaching, it’s a sure sign that it’s fall when flu clinics are getting scheduled. Wilton’s Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County has done just that, scheduling 18 flu clinics in Wilton beginning now through November.

The nursing agency will hold flu clinics at the following locations and times:

Our Lady of Fatima Church, 229 Danbury Rd.,

  • Monday, September 18 following the 9:00 a.m. mass
  • Sunday, October 8 from 8:30 a.m. until 12 noon;

Wilton Senior Center, 180 School Rd.

  • Monday, Sept. 18, 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 1, 10-11:30 a.m.;

Wilton Health Department, 238 Danbury Rd.

  • Monday, Oct. 2, 2:30-4 p.m.

Wilton Library, 137 Old Ridgefield Rd.

  • Monday, Oct. 16, 3:30–5 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 4, 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 14, 10-11:30 a.m.

Wilton Kiwanis Club meeting at WEPCO, 48 New Canaan Rd.

  • Wednesday, Oct. 18, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Wilton Town Hall, 238 Danbury Rd.

  • Tuesday, Oct. 17, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County will also hold an additional eight flu clinics at its offices at 761 Main Ave., Suite 114, in I-Park at the intersection of Kent Rd. and Rte. 7 on the Wilton/Norwalk town line. These clinics will be held every Wednesday afternoon from 3:30-5 p.m. from Sept. 27 through Nov. 15.

Anyone four years of age or older can receive the seasonal flu vaccine at these clinics and there is no residency requirement.

“The flu shot is safe and the single most effective way to prevent influenza, decrease its complications and help stop the spread of flu,” said Katherine Lasberg, RN, community health coordinator at Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County. “Anyone wishing to avoid contracting or spreading influenza should receive the flu shot prior to flu season, which usually begins in December.”

All flu clinics are conducted on a first-come, first-served basis and appointments are not necessary. Persons under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

The cost of the vaccine is $50 for the regular dose and $68 for the high dose, which will be available for those age 65 or over. Cash or check will be accepted or it can be billed directly to Medicare Part B, Aetna, Anthem, Connecticare, Harvard Pilgrim, Multi Plan or Wellcare. Please bring an insurance card to the flu clinic.

Those wishing to receive the flu vaccine are encouraged to wear short sleeves or sleeves that are easy to roll up.
