The Miller-Driscoll School Building Committee is inviting Wilton residents to a public information session to learn about the renovations planned for the school. The information session will take place on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Brubeck Room at the Wilton Library, with a brief presentation followed by questions.
The building committee was charged by the Board of Selectmen with two tasks: 1) extend the useful life of Miller-Driscoll School for another 25 years and, 2) create adequate, appropriate space to accommodate a growing special needs pre-kindergarten population.
The objectives of the project include:
- Bring the facility up to current code standards;
- Complete required major infrastructure replacement/upgrade projects;
- Provide adequate and appropriate space to accommodate a growing special needs pre-kindergarten population;
- Improve site circulation and safety; and
- Provide value to the Wilton community.
The proposed renovation is currently budgeted at $44 million. In order for the project to move forward, it must be approved by majority at a vote of town residents. Voting on the bond authorization to fund the design, engineering and construction of the project will take place at a Special Town Meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.. The meeting and the vote on both days will take place at the Clune Center at Wilton High School.
