One of Ambler Farm‘s most popular winter programs is now open for registration. The Tap-a-Tree Maple Syrup Program begins Saturday, Feb. 7; members are able to enroll now, and registration opens to the general public on Jan. 15.

Participants will learn the science and local history of maple syruping by being a hands-on part of the process. With two training sessions offered (Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m.), only one session is required for training. On that day registrants will choose a tree and hang bucket that will collect sap.

Ambler Farm will send regular updates on the running of the sap so that participants can come to the Farm to collect sap, which will be boiled down in the Ambler Farm sugar shack. Each participating family receives their very own bottle of Ambler Farm maple syrup.

The season runs from early February to mid-March. Maple syrup production is winter farming and, therefore, weather dependent. A typical season is five weeks long. Sap will be collected for anyone traveling during February or March.

Enrollment is limited to 110 families. This program sold out quickly in previous years, so organizers suggest signing up as soon as possible. The number of trees at the Farm is limited, so late requests and wait lists can’t be accommodated.

The cost to participate is $60 per member family, $65 per non-member family. To register, visit the Ambler Farm website.
