Last year, the Wilton-based Arthur J. Wall Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund made a generous donation that will help patients being treated by the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps (WVAC).
In September the Arthur Wall Fund presented a $5,000 check to the WVAC to help offset the cost of purchasing new equipment. This week, WVAC was able to install brand new Striker Stair Chairs on each of its ambulances as a direct result of this donation.

According to a post on the WVAC Facebook page, the chairs allow crews to safely transport patients up and down stairs and through tight spaces that cannot accommodate a stretcher.
“Patient handling in stairways can pose a dangerous potential for operator back injury. These chairs reduce that risk and we can’t thank the Arthur J. Wall Scholarship Fund enough,” reads the post.
Kevin Wall, Arthur Wall’s son, made the check presentation Sept. 29, 2015 to Wendy Fratino, the president of WVAC, which was chosen as the Fund’s Community Outreach Recipient. Each year the fund’s golf outing, in which Wilton friends, businesses and golfers play, helps support not only a yearly gift to a Wilton 501 (c) 3 community organization but also two scholarships given to graduates of Wilton High School each June.
At the time of the WVAC check presentation, Fratino said, “We can’t thank the Art Wall Scholarship Fund for the generosity they showed in selecting us. A large percentage of our funding comes from private donations and only a fraction of our operations are covered from town payments—this donation will help us tremendously.”
Since being created in 1999, the Arthur J. Wall Scholarship Fund has awarded over $110,000 in scholarships to graduating WHS seniors and $20,000 to local 501 (c)(3) organizations. You can learn more by visiting the Arthur J. Wall Scholarship Fund website.
